Thanks guys glad you like it so far.

Well, here is the new MKII cowl. Fresh out of the mold. The overlap layup technique used and it is super strong and light with no voids. I used 3/4 oz cloth in the sharper areas. I then used the remaining resin mixed with balloons and flock and pored into the nose rim. This works great and reduces the risk of voids like I was getting with the earlier cowls. The detail came out really nice and is a big improvement from the first one. The fit is perfect and looks so much better.

I did scratch the paint a little getting out but have figured out the problem so should be near perfect in the future.

Next is the new layups for the rear stabs etc.

Making compositie parts is both a science and an art. The company I work for has dept. where they make a range of composite parts including Nascar components and drag race bodies. It's amazing to watch what they can do.

Big update this week.

Got the cowl, engine and engine mounting system remade for ease of manufacture and installation. Fits the fuse like a glove. In the pic you can see a five minute detail of adding the silver using a paint stick then a flat krylon coating then installed. To install it is a couple of drops of thick CA to place it on the now molded in shoulders. Then go around the engine cylinders with shoe goo or equivalent. Took a total of ten minutes from silver to installation and the picture taken.

Got my new horizontal stab in the oven getting ready for final layup. Then just work out the hinge mounting and internal structure then stick to halves together for finished product. I'm flying tomorrow so elevators can wait until Monday.

Today I gave birth to my new horizontal stab. Came out perfect for the first one. Installed nicely in to the stab opening with minimal effort. A couple more pics enclosed.

Thanks guys.... A big push this week to build an entire new fuselage set then assemble ready for flight. I'm controlling the weight and rigidity pretty good so far.

A change of plan. I was going to layup an entire fuselage assembly but to be honest I'm tired of brushing on resin. So now that I have the completed parts for the entire fuselage, I'm going to start finishing the flying prototype. I should be able to have it in the air next week if weather permits.

Today, I completed the first set of elevators and built a jig that allows me to drill the long pin hinge rod for the rudder. It worked like a charm and is quite easy to do now. The elevators fit nice. One thing I learned today is not to prime the molds unless you are going to layup the parts within a day. I primed on a Friday and laid up three days later. The primer is spider webbed in a couple of areas and just not up to scratch. I think it is shrinking?

The entire fuselage and surfaces along with cockpit and cowl comes in at exactly 2Lbs so I think I'm pretty safe on target weight of 71/2 lbs all up ready to fly.

I'll post stuff as I do the build.
