If you lay them on a flat surface, yes. It's funny how they conform to a curved surface though. You still have a small gap but it is very much less than if you had square cut strips. The small gaps are easily filled with lite weight spackle. Once you have a bunch of strips cut, it is a pretty quick process to lay them down.

Re fixing the planks,in the past I've used these Graupner pins.They have a really fine point and will enter a 1/16" former without splitting it.Some quick drying wood glue allows a bit of 'wiggle' time.
The pins are ideal for off the bench pinning,though they aren't strong enough to pin to the work surface.
