Motor Amps

Ok this may be a stupid question but what is the Motor Amp
let's say a max current in 2000kv motor is 95A
what's the 95A in case the lipo 3s let's say is 5000mAh ?

The only stupid question is the one that is not asked.

The 'Max amps' rating on a motor is its max "efficient" amp rating. The motor will easily pull more amps than that if the prop is bigger & it is cooled.
By the time you get the right prop for thr best speed with acceptable temps on motor,ESC & batteries, that 95A motor will be pulling around 120A- 140A maybe more.
So you need to size the batteries (and ESC) to suit more than the Max amp rating of the motor
The output of a battery is determined by both the MAH & the C rating of the pack.
A 5000mah pack at 20C will only yield 100A. Not big enough for your 95A motor.
A 5000mah pack at 45C will yield 225A
Running packs in parallel will double the available current.

Cheers.
Paul.

Hi JAD,

The T-120 should be sufficient, my son runs the Aquacraft 2200Kv on 4S in his Arowana and uses a 200A 'marinised' Mystery ESC which barely gets handwarm after a 6 minute run.

Regards, Jan.

It really depends on the size & type of boat, & also the size & type of prop you are running.
I've blown the caps on a 120A Turnigy ESC with a 3674 2200kv Leopard in my 31" Arowana, with a 440/3 blade prop. But a Himodel GX 200A ESC's ( similar to the Mystery one that Jan mentioned) has no problem with that set up.

What boat & prop are you using?

An extra caps bank on the T-120 wouldn't hurt.

Totally agree Jan. But yes that 120A ESC should be fine with that set up.
But JAD, make sure the timing is set to the lowest setting as it is a D wind motor, & they only like around 1 - 3 degrees of timing.
Cheers.
Paul.

Hi JAD,

Out of the box, the T-120 is set on a timing of 15, which is fine for a Y wind, but too high for a D-wind.

Setting the timing lower is a piece of cake when you follow the instructions, or use a programming box.
I'm running my Turnigy 3674-B-1900Kv on a 7 timing and nothing gets warm.

Regards, Jan.

Jan thanks buddy so the timing is about increasing the rpm of the motor yeah ?
as we increase timing as the motor spin more faster and the esc will get warm .

question how to program the turnigy marine 120 A to 7.5?
do you know a programer box compatible for this esc ?

Turnigy Marine
Programmable settings

Reverse
Low Voltage (none/2.8v/3v/3.2v/3.4v)
Brake: (none/soft/hard)
Timing (0.00/3.75/7.50/11.25/15.00/18.75/22.50/26.25)

again thank you very much !

Hi JAD. Looks like Jan has taken time out to sleep.

Here's the programmer for your 120A ESC It also does the 180A when you get one.
Turnigy & Seaking are the same ESC's

Just follow the instructions that come with
