There are some things you need to know about your new boat

Carlos
Welcome to the forum and to RC sailing. As you can see there are some very nice people on this forum and many are very willing to help new people as the get started in this wonderful hobby.

There are a few things you need to know about your new Monsoon. The first and most important is that the Monsoon's hatch leaks and needs to be modified to make it water tight. I suggest you go to this link and begin reading the comments from another new comer who brought a new Monsoon as well. Carlos

Go to this link and read through all the posts - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1755341&page=3

You will gain some very helpful information. I am sure you will have more questions once you read the posts, but at least you will have an understanding of what you will need to do to your boat to make it "sea worthy".

If you send me your e-mail address I will send you a list of the upgrades I did to my Monsoon and how I did them and I will include pictures to help you understand what I am talking about.

4: The charger for the battery:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7028

This charger needs a 12 volt DC power supply (positive centre pin) capable of supplying 5 or 6 amps DC.

You can power it from the cigar lighter in a car, or a mains plug pack connected to a power outlet.

I power mine from an old computer power supply I had laying around....

Quote from HK site:

Note: Please ensure you fill the keel ballast to 1.2kg or heavier. Lead shot, bearings or bolts/nuts will be sufficient. Keeping them in place with epoxy.

That is just about what I had in mine but had a feeling it would be ok if I have a little more. Boat was sailing great with 1.2 but it was little sensitive on light breeze so little heavier should be fine...

Cant wait to see some pictures.... maybe video???

While the HK site says 1.2Kg, it says that for most of the boats - you should be able to get 1.5Kg or more in it. Recommended ballast material is Number 8 lead shot if you can get it where you are...

Note also that the photo on the HK website shows the keel fin (not the bulb) installed back to front - I understand that this puts the bulb further forward than it should be, resulting in pitchpoling (submarining) in heavier weather

Lots of discussion on the Monsoon and similar boats at www.shipshaperc.com - that site specialises in the Shunbo / cheap Chinese boats.... and yes, you have to buy the eBook to be able to post on that forum and to see the pictures and access the member area. If you are a beginner with these boats, the eBook is well worth the money IMHO.

Disclaimer - I am a member of that forum and a regular contributor - I have no financial connection with its operation.. I do not own a Monsoon (but I have a Hurricane, a Surmount and a Discovery)
