Flew my Terry for the first time today!
Hi all,
I recieved the Graupner Terry about 2 weeks ago and built it and today was the first day with light wind Thankfully. This was my second time flying any r/c model airplane. The first time I flew an Oly 2 Sailplane. Man the Terry is a blast. I got 3 flights and that was the funnest thing you could do with your clothes on ![]() I almost hit a backstop at the baseball field when I did a full throttle low flyby. It was awesome. I will post some pics in a little bit. It also glides pretty well in my limited opinion. Landing were a bit tricky due to the fact that it overshoots a lot. Thanks all and Happy flying, Andy |

Congratulations on your successful flights with your new Terry!!!
I have one too and I love it. I like flying sailplanes but I wanted a parkflyer sailplane that I could fly in the wind but that would slow down pretty well. I saw someone flying one and just had to have one! I know some people have had trouble with the wing mounts being a bit fragile but I haven't had any trouble with mine. However, I'm an experienced flyer and I fly and land mine gentle. BTW -- My plane slows down pretty well. Make sure your plane isn't nose heavy. I use a 7-cell 600AE battery which provides a good balance between light weight and power/duration. An 8-cell would probably make the plane nose-heavy. Have fun and thanks for sharing your experience, Jim |

Jim,
I'm thinking of buying the 7 cell 600 AE battery. Can you tell me how the Terry flies with it? Right now I'm using the 6 cell 500 AR. Yesterday when I was flying I was doing circuits when the Auto-cutoff kicked in right in the middle of a turn. I thought I didn't have enough speed to turn So i Landed it at it's current heading. Unfortanatly, My Dad and I were right in front of the terry. Nedless to say I have some grass stains on my clothes that needs to be washed from diving out of the way Thankfully I had enough instinct to turn my head and land it while i was laying on the grass. Out of 3 flights I haven't had any trouble with the wing mounts. Thanks, Andy |

Terries Go Real Fast, Man
Please be careful when flying high performance electrics in the parks or schoolyards. One near miss or any injury can get e-fliers kicked out and "no-nutten" signs put up prohibiting any self-propelled models. We have almost no place to fly legally in So CA.

Monkeyjam,
Glad you like the Terry. I like mine too. Really sleek, fast and quiet. Along with what E-challanged said, it's not a parkflier. It's a fast plane that can bother and possibly injure people. We don't need any bad press. I know that parts of the country are different, but here in the burbs I equate baseball backstops with schoolyards and populated areas. Maybe your's is in the sticks in the middle of nowhere. I fly my slowfliers at the local schoolyard at daybreak when no one is around. When I fly my Terry I drive twice as far out to the country on a 20 acre field. I think a baseball hit off a bat is more dangerous, but I don't think the non-modeling public sees it that way. RB |

I understand your guys concern. This place is pretty big. It's a baseball field with soccer fields on the side and front. I never fly when their are people there.Which means I have to go at around 7:30. I will look for another field to fly at next week.
Thanks, Andy |

Didn't mean to scare you off. Just use good judgment.
Most Terry discussions are on the "Foamie" forum. Here are the results of a search if you want to read what people are saying about it. terry Good flyin' RB |

You didn't scare me off Red Baron. I was thinking for awhile after what you said and Realized that I do need a bigger field. So dont feel guilty about scaring me off
Thanks for the search link you gave me.Happy Flying, Andy |

Monkeyjam -- I think the Terry flies great on the 7-cell 600AE. It has plenty of power and duration. I usually get 10-15 minutes but I usually fly at a reduced throttle occasionally turning off the power to work thermals. I believe the AE cells are lighter than the AR cells so that you may not be adding any weight with 7 cells.
I haven't had any sudden BEC cutoffs but I usually land as soon as the motor starts acting a little weak. Jim |
