Question
fiberglass hulls (loyalhanna dockyard)

anyone know of any details or build threads pertaining to the "GENERIC FISHING BOAT" fiberglass hull on their site, I tried Google for any info and here for any build threads but yield nothing.

http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/
for some reason I can't link the exact page. Its under "kit selections" then "dockyard moldings".

also whats the best hull to use for boating in the ocean (3-6 ft waves) I'm building it to take the abuse. Is fiberglass a better choice than ABS?

Anybody who wants to sail an R/C boat in 3' - 6' waves has to be a little bit off anyway.

Now what was your question---?

For 3' to 6' waves you will need a self righting submersible.

Gerald.

Fiberglass is your best option for the abuse. What we really need to know is this going to be a scale vessel or just a hull with a simple deck arrangement to goe have fun with. If non scale, take hull and add a small ball to the deck just forward of midships so if it rolls over--will right it's self.

thanks guys! as far as going for scale, I'm planning on semi scale. I've already put my current ship against 1-3ft waves and it self rights just fine (albeit taking on water) funny thing is that all the electronics are rolling around in the hull completely exposed to saltwater... needless to say by the time the waterline was creeping up to the deck of the boat, the electronics were already submerged! ESC, RX, lipo, servo all still ran fine. I coated them in corrosion X (its some really amazing stuff) that boat was built around the Revell elco pt boat hull. I'm just looking for something a bit more durable as I want to make the next build more durable and reliable.

I'll post some video soon

Slow internet connection (in another country) sooo these Screen shots will have to do.

what I'm generally looking for is some hull that resembles the pictures, although i could go as small as 20 inches if need be. the design dosen't have to be exact, it could have the stern of a tug boat but perferrably be straight rather than round and a U hull vs a V hull... any takers or did everyone go away?

well looks like I just pulled the trigger on the micro glass 24'' tug... I would have loved to get the 86' shrimper but it was too large.

yes, grab your popcorn. its going to be a while before this build is completed, I'm wanting this to be my last boat build for a while... I hate building a new one every year as the past one was always plagued with problems in the drive line. I can build some seriously complex aircraft that work flawlessly but give me a damn boat and I can't get the propeller fixed to a motor shaft. hopefully I've learned enough from my past mistakes to build a bullet proof saltwater proof boat. The last one actually still works well, those pics were taken with only one screw turning. Minutes into running that ship, the right drive gear box spur gear completely stripped itself... still kept going at a modest pace though.

Just make sure you seal her up as tight as humanly possible and/or build a waterproof electronics box, she will live far longer that way.
