I worked on the fuselage, tonight; mounting the rudder and elevator servos and rough sheeting the fuselage back to the wing trailing edge. I need to:
-- add the cutout sections at the canopy's fore and aft ends
-- build and mount the canopy
-- add the final ring to the cowling
-- add the sub rudder and the tail wheel
-- make arrangements for attaching the wing
-- determine the firewall offset for the motor and prop combination
-- install the motor and its mounting
-- install the Rx
I'm still wondering if I need to provide a hatch, if I can remove the forward canopy to add and remove the battery.

It's good of you to complement the build so. I know that I'm nowhere the craftsmen status of the two of you but, I do OK in a slapdash, "make it fly and look OK at 30 meters" manner of building. And I take great pleasure out of doing so. I'm enjoying watching your respective builds come along, very much.
Regarding the canopy.
I can easily divide it into three sections: Forward, Central and Aft.
Forward: I've been thinking about trying the "Poor Man's" method of making a plug and brute force shrinking a section of soft drink bottle around it, using a paint stripping heat gun, without vacuum. But I have a shop vacuum and this may be the excuse I need to make a very simple, reasonably sized, vacuum box.
Central: These are simply planar sections. I plan to frame up some plastic pieces.
Aft: The Skua had a quarter-cylinder section that the gunner could revolve over his head to expose himself when plying the aft machine gun. I'm thinking of omitting it entirely, giving me a very ample exit for cooling air coming in through the cowling. I am thinking of making a simple aft machine gun and some profile occupants for the cockpit.

I like your idea for the rear canopy being open with a gunner. As you say, the ventilation is a good idea. I must try to make allowance for some ventilation in my own build as well.

I've been fighting that Norovirus that is ravaging the schools in Virginia. The last three days have been miserable... except for the hour before dusk on Wednesday, when I took the UM Mosquito, UM MiG-15, Slowly and UM T-28 out for two flights each, before the sun set.
Tonight, I started covering tail surfaces. I need to retrieve the heat gun tomorrow, and tighten them up. Then I will be hinging the surfaces and attaching the control horns.

I covered the wing and tightened it up with the heat gun.
Things to do list:
-- connect and hinge the split elevators to the horizontal stab.
-- make and install the elevator control horn.
-- hinge the rudder to the vertical stab.
-- make and install the rudder control horn
-- make, cover and install the strip ailerons.
-- install the aileron pushrods.
-- cut and install the aft cockpit sheeting
-- make the plug for the forward canopy.
-- fabricate the forward canopy
-- fabricate the fwd cockpit sheeting
-- fabricate the pilot
-- assemble the fwd canopy, pilot and cockpit sheeting into a hatch
-- install wing attach fittings in the fuselage
-- install the leading edge fairings in the fuselage
-- fabricate and install the vertical sub-stab and tail wheel
-- fabricate and install the cowling ring
-- install the motor, ESC and Rx
-- bind to Tx
-- conduct systems test
-- mock up, measure and adjust preliminary CG location
-- cover the fuselage
-- fabricate and install the central windows
-- fabricate and install the aft gunner and gun
-- attach the tail surfaces
-- rig the rudder and elevator controls
-- add national markings
-- verify CG location
-- conduct systems test
-- set preliminary dual rates and expo
-- conduct preflight inspection
-- take commemorative photos

I weighed the components, as they stand now:
Rudder (covered) - 4.0 g
Vertical stab (cov) - 4.7 g
Elevator left - 1.9 g
Elevator right - 1.7 g
Horizontal Stab - 8.3
Tail group (without hinges) - 20.6 g
Wing (with servos and covering but without ailerons or pushrods) - 61.5 g
Fuselage (no motor, covering, ESC, RX but with 2 x 9g servos) - 58.4 g
All up weight at this point is 140.5 g
So far, so good.

I keep reminding myself about keeping the weight down.
In a "10G" terminal velocity dive, high-rate, 100% servo throw pull up the loads will only be about 2000 g. I've static tested the wing to twice that load. In a "20G" crash (yes, I want my Skua to be a repairable pile of sticks), I'm only facing loads that are under 5500 g.
My instincts tell me to carve the plane from solid balsa; and, I'm not even including the strength in tension provided by the covering.

Just don't crash.
And remember: the lighter you build, the less mass you have - which means that the drag will slow you down enough that you won't experience 20G crashes with planes that small. At least when you remember to cut the power and pull the elevator when things go south.

The "quick and cheap" hinge material I chose is already cracking in fatigue. I'm going to have to cut them out and replace them.
The build is showing signs of "slapdash" construction I attribute to anxieties at work. I support troops in distant battlefields with information and instruction and some of the long hours (to accommodate time zone differences) and stresses communicated through the reporting and electronic communications rub off. I care about my "customers" and when they face danger, I worry that the information I provided is sufficient, and when they are hurt or killed, I grieve.
Whatever your nationality, please remember such people in your devotions.
Time for me to take a breath, go get some decent, pinned hinges down at the LHS and clean up the mess,
