The best reference for my modeling work has been "Airplane Structures" by Niles and Newell (1929). Many examples are wooden structures and the math is spelled out in a way that lends itself to the use of Excel spreadsheets.

I only made small progress, today, thanks to a migraine headache. I contented myself with finishing the right wing section, avoiding sharp objects as much as possible.

A couple of hours spent, framing up the center wing section.

Only minor work done, as I'm still feeling poorly. I finished the center wing section sanding and attached the right wing. Will be setting up for the left wing.

Hi, Phil!
The 25-inch span FF plan calls for 2-inches of dihedral at the tips, breaking at the inboard end of the wing panel. The full scale aircraft had a straight upper spar. The only "apparent" dihedral was due to the decreasing wing thickness. There was also a slight bend up, outboard of the aileron. As I'm adding ailerons, I'm making the wings almost scale, in this respect. david |

Thanks for the kind words, Conrad.
I've built three Stahl FF in the last 30 years. They were all wonderful. On the Skua, I got more done over the last few days but, with my dominant right arm suffering under this pinched nerve, it has been difficult. I've had good company from my "fuzzy daughter;" she likes to chew on dangling stringers. I've also had some excitement, with a minor fire in the apartments. The build continues. David

Conrad & Steve, thanks for the nice comments. My arm is better, but still giving me trouble. I sat down and worked on formers, today. I'm debating if I should make the cowling out of the balsa, per the plan, or to make something more durable.
I'm a better builder than I am a flyer and I expect to bang this guy up a time or two. I've made the wing stronger just so it will cartwheel without losing more than the wing tips. |

A little more. There will be a good deal of piece work, down the road. I'll be filling in the cowl before, cutting it off, and installing a firewall.
