Started a hex frame this afternoon out of clear pine.
22" between motors. 12 oz AUW so far.

Very nice Tim, I do like the landing gear. I am kind of at a stand still on my build. I ran out of aircraft ply and had to place an order with aircraft spruce. I hate running out of supplies

What motors are you going with??

Thanks Mike. I know what you mean about running out. I thought I had enough ply for the legs but had to scrounge in the rafters for what you see. (I realized this after I went into town for the dowels. Doh!)

I'm sticking the Avroto's on it with the SimonK Rapid Drive ESC's. WAY overkill for the GoPro 3 but that's okay. It's AUW as it sits is 31 ounces. I've flown 10 lbs with six Avrotos before. So, 5 lbs should be a lot of fun.

Hey Mike,

How long are your skids on the landing gear? I'm picking them up with the GoPro set to R5. I'm going to have to shorten them up for it to work.... Just concerned with landing stability.

Hey Tim, the ones on my Hex are about 10" long and 8 " below the bottom center frame board if that helps. You saw it land. Requires a little care to land on relatively flat ground to avoid tipping, but I very rarely tip it.

Mine are at 7 1/2 inches, I needed to keep them short to fit in my Nanuk case

It land just fine, no stability/tipping issues what so ever. I might be lower than you so things could be a bit different.

Thanks guys. I made mine 6". I can always take them off and add new ones if need be.

I mount my Go Pro such that the back is about even with the frame plate so it is a bit forward. It is mounted upside down so it hangs about midpoint of the height of the gear. I also shoot in the 720 x 60 mode so the picture is wide but not as high which helps miss the arms and the landing gear.

I'll be mainly using the 1080P setting. Especially with the new GoPro 3 at 60fps in 1080P.

So, it's all glued up and ready for paint. It's very solid and shouldn't have any tippy issues as long as it flys as solid as yours Joe!

The paint is still drying. I'm holding off to fly my Naza quad one more time before I strip it for motors, RX, etc...

Received the Rapid Drive ESC's today. Wire management will be a challenge on this one as the arms are so short and I'm not going to cut the motor wires again.

Looks great Tim I know what you mean about wire management....I only have about 3 inches of wire on my Avrotos. I solder my ESC's so they are right under the prop tip wash. That way when I move things around all I need to do is extend or reduce my power leads.

How on earth do you set throttle range on these escs? Or are they just plug and play?
