Decided Id make a new post giving a heads up on a design that im in the throws of completing for testing...

meet my Y6 "Isolated Active Inertial Stabilization System"

OK, so Im crap at making a creative acronym!
- come up with a better name!

essentially, based on some principles gleaned from commercial Steadicam design, along with various boom camera isolator designs, Ive taken another step forward in camera vibration isolation, and image stabilisation

this is NOT an AP craft for professionals wanting large multiaxial ranges of motion from their camera gimbals

this IS first and foremost an FPV craft, which is designed to take the best in-flight, stabilized footage / stills at the lowest weight possible, with the least battery energy used.

a few interesting features:
- more than 70% of the AUW is fully decoupled from the motors/props with only 3 frequency-tuned isolators
- the FPV and GoPro camera are rigidly fixed to this decoupled mass = no transmitted vibrations!
- the camera roll axis is stabilized directly along the roll axis of the aircraft = the camera does not move one bit, ie no image shift, plus there is no energy transfer = more efficient
- additionally, the inertial mass of the batteries is assembled with the roll axis stabilizer shaft, designed in a way which further limits energy used to maintain roll attitude of the camera = smoother and efficient passive stabilization
- 82MG hi speed micro servos on both axis to prevent any pendulum effects
- 2:1 MXL pulley reduction system - slop free and smooth, no pots required, with 50deg stabilisation range of motion on both axis

now this is just a prototype... there'll be inevitable development and rethinks along the way, but im keen to get some feedback on things, and am open to suggestions and further design tweaks etc...

pics to come in the next few posts. main plates have just been cut (hence i figured it was time to get an actual post up!) and well have assembly over the next few weeks. in the meantime, ill get some of the preliminary design renders up, and document the progress

Carbon Fiber 12x4.5" props
x2 4000 3s Lipos

estimated flight time 15-25mins

I have nothing to do with design here.
Only slightly change landing parts to be able to cut it.

its been a busy few weeks back at work, so things are a bit slow on the parts development front! still need to upload some designs to shapeways to actually get some parts happening...

not planning on selling it by the way

though if theres enough interest once its done, and i iron out the usual prototype bugs, id be happy to let the whole thing (CAD/3D parts/isolator suppliers/etc etc) go 'open source' so to speak??

ps, thread updated with some pics further up
(frame parts finally arrived from eric, and got to work today laying out components nd wiring loom...)

theyre spot-on

perfect fit, clean edge. cant ask for more !

might need to get 1 or 2 extra bits recut, but thats entirely due to a small change in the design plan (FPV camera mount) so will get in touch

Can you take an Iso view picture ?
Would see it better.

looks like crap at present, hence deliberatly vague photos! lol

when its got a few more parts and you get an idea of the design and function, ill do a proper bunch of better photos... maybe not with my iphone too
