Got the tank installed and the tank mount completed, plus it's removeable. Plenty of room for the throttle linkage to bypass the tank. Worked out better then I had hoped.

Throttle servo & linkage are in. Nothing hitting or binding.

It looks like a really nice clean install.

??

I've never encountered this before. Probably be a few days before Sullivan replies. Surely this isn't typical is it? They're Sullivan S889.

Advice? Pros--Cons?

Good news is the plane will balance. Bad news is the rcvr. & glow driver packs need to be located here to hit CG. I've never had packs under the cowl this close to an engine before. Thoughts?

I have stuffed packs on top, under, and all around fuel tanks to get balance, I can't see how that would be a problem!

however I do hope you plan on closeing up the rest of the firwall! no mater how clean your engine runs, it well get nitro all through the airframe!

check out the slick build for reference if you need!

Good point! I have a big cutout on the bottom of the cowl that will also direct airflow down.

I'm stuck on a way to get the muffler extended down far enough to exhaust out the bottom of the cowl. Unable to find enough part/pieces to do this. The flex pipes are pieces of $$$ junk(keep breaking/leaking) and the silicon deflectors keep failing so those are out. May be forced to build my own. I have no desire to cut new holes into the cowl to make an exhaust work when I should be able to dump out the bottom in the existing cut out.

Then there's the power to feed the on board glow. Because the glow pack will be located under the cowl, AND the leads are not micro deans, and the leads are not long enough, there's no way to leave it inside the bird, have it connected and still be able to charge the pack. So I'm glad I can solder. WTH Sullivan doesn't have a port in the switch to charge a pack is beyond me. The parts are made & I'm done whining for now....

BTW, Sullivan is sending some new wheel pant mounts. I sure hope they fit.

just curious deckerd, did you have the onboard glow driver on your last plane?

I know there nice to have in some scale aplications, but did you need it?

I have seen alot of saito's in my time, and none of them really needed onboard glow! maybe some wieght savings would be in order!

No onboard glow ever. I had/have the H9 glow plug adapter in all the birds so I didn't need to get my fingers around the props. Unfortunately, the filthy things are not reliable when plugged in. I have to hold it just right to get contact to the plugin. For some reason, my .82 has quit 3 times in the air, I had fuel, no plugs in the line, fuel filter is installed and the H9 plug is new. I even installed a new plug after the 1st quit. The 3rd dead stick landing was a crash because I was to low in a high bank turn and running maybe 1/2 throttle. I decided I'd try the driver and see what happens. My other 4 Saitos don't just quit. .56, .72, .91, 1.00 unless there's no fuel.

It didn't help with CG by adding the 2nd servo to the elevator. That added 1.3oz on the tail. As the bird sits now, the glow pack and the rcvr. pack allow the plane to balance out. I'm not sure removing the extra servo would be enough to let the plane balance. The glow driver switch is 1.2oz. and is just ahead of the wing tube. The fuel dot is even further in front of the wing tube and weighs .25oz. The driver pack is 5.2oz. and located under the cowl. All told that's 7.95 oz that 'could' go and would drop the weight to 5.7lbs. I could lose more weight if I dropped both packs to 4.8v as well but I already had the 6v.

I have some new Al tube coming in the mail to make a new exhaust setup. Just have to thread/bend it. Rated to +400* F. It's a week+ away.

It'll be interesting to see what happens after all my confobulations..
