HL/nitroplanes F4 70mm kit build (numerous mods)

Warning, this will be a very slow build.

I currently have one of these planes running on an E-flite delta-v 15, 3600kv motor and 4s 3300 30-40C turnigy lipo producing between 700-800W. The plane is covered with 3/4oz glass and WBPU, aileron servos have been moved to the top of the wing, rudder has been added and exhaust nozzles hot wire cut to get rid of the screwed-up thrust line. I've flow it most of the summer and am very happy with it. I've since purchased another airframe and am planning the following changes:

1 - change fan to lander 68mm 6S (should be good for 700-800W & better sound
2 - run on (2) nano-tech 3S 45-90C batteries in series (this should allow more room to move batteries around to get the proper CoG, common batteries used with alot of my other planes
3 - rudder installation ( going to try and get everything to sit in the fuse this time)
4 - full flying stab (looking for more scale appearance and like the build challenge)
5 - electric retracts, want to try and build half decent gear doors to cover them
6 - build new (bigger & thicker) wings to accommodate extra wing loading and to have landing gear sit within the wing
7 - wings will have separate flaps and ailerons

I've already started on the motor installation and the stabs and will post pictures once my camera batteries are charged.

Progress on pivot for stab.
Will run carbon tube through the fuse and into the stabilizers. I have another brass tube that will be used for the elbows to get the downward angle set.

Love it.

Looking good - was wondering how the anhedral angle would be handled in regard to attachment to elevator drive mechanism. How much glue joint length is there between carbon spar and the brass? - if I read right, looks to be 1/2".

Originally had wondered also how larger wings were going to be had......looking at the elev, now I know .

1/2" is correct.

Will hot wire the larger wings.

I haven't done any of the math yet. The wing will probably be the last piece of this puzzle. It will definately get thicker to accommodate retracts. I expect to have some combination of larger wing span and longer root length at the tip.

Jan 8/2013 update
- glassed elevators, rudder and upper rear section
- elevator servo and rods dry installed. I'll glue everything once I know it all works
- rudder control installed, nothing showing outside of the airframe. Servo needs a proper mount. It's just taped in place for now

I plan to glue the lower half of the rear section to the rest of the airframe. The upper half with the rudder will be removable so that all the internal parts can be accessed.

last set of pictures for now.

Working on wings and trying to decide what to do with the inlet and exhaust from the fan. Inlets are way oversized and I'm thinking about changing to a single oval outlet similar to the Dan Savage F4 kit.

Awesome mods gdimonte , I was thinking about doing the same mod to the tail on mine but I first have to fly mine with all the metal I've done and see if it can handle more weight . Are you going to do the smaller intakes as well ?
