You may want to run a static port for your carb. More than likely there is going to be a large pressure build up in the cowl.

Excuse my ignorance Kerwin, but I'm not familiar with static ports. Could you explain a little more about that? I have the plane completed now but have yet to update the thread. I'm just wondering if this is something for me to be concerned about?

There's a hole in your carb cover that keeps the diaphram atomspheric pressure. When you have a cowl that builds up pressure, it changes the mixture, and in lots of cases creates a dead stick.
What people do is solder a tube in the carb cover. The run fuel tubing from the cover to a flat spot on the outside of the fuse. Behind the landing gear is the best,
Other people have ran the tubing to a film canister with a small hole in it, placing it in the fuse as well.
I've done both and the static port works the best.
But now days with my 3D flying I just open the bottom of the cowl for the necessary cooling.
The rule for normal cooling is 3 times the incoming air opening.
These motor can really get hot in a hover.

On my sbach i used a pitts style muffler and what i ended up doing was cutting a hole like 2 1/2" wide and 3"long for the muffler to stick out and also so i could get the cowl on and off easier. This also created a big enough outlet to get air out. Another cleaner way to make the exit holes with your set up would be to use a dremel with the small drum sander and cut some vents in the bottom like for instance 1/2 x 1 1/2" slots, 3 in a row just like an air vent in a house. This allows for proper air exit and looks clean.

How's this build coming along?

I think these are the most beautiful Sbach models available. Nice to see the new scheme on something a little bigger than the UMX. Can't wait to see more.

I have some vents cut in the cowl that you can sort of see in one of the last pics. I probably need more though. I didn't realize that's what you were talking about.

My Redwing Sbach is going into it's 3rd season and 150+ flights with no sign of fatigue anywhere. Really a nice plane
