I would like to offer a better way to verify the owner.

As well as asking the story of how it was lost, ask the suspected owner what electronics are inside it, in particular name brands of servos what type rx, esc manu and amperage as well as motor specs. An airplane owner should know those details about all their planes without hesitation.

Bad feeling when that happens. I lost a glider in a cornfield miles away once and a fazer in thick woods. Both were found by clubmembers and returned. I applaud your actions.

It's *itty Pink with Insignia Yellow highlights, it has all Turnigy electronics, and I lost it trying to do a inverted loop when it flew through a flock of Flamingoes and I couldn't tell which one was MY bird...

No, seriously... it is way cool that you are going to go through so much trouble to find the owner of this airplane. It is obvious you know the joy and the pain this hobby brings, and seeing your efforts here has actually helped restore my faith in humanity a little. Go YOU.

Oh, and a simple way of being reasonably sure it's the right owner; tell him to bring a charged battery and his TX. If it's his, it should be already set up for the plane, he should have the right battery for the plane, and in the case of a 2.4GHz rig, the plane should already be bound to it.

That Spitfire is mine. I was flying out here in Ohio and lost signal and just kept flying west. Can't believe it made it that far!

And i dont know the agony yet as i am new to the hobby, and havent had the unfortunate experience of a lost craft. I can imagine the heartbreak of loosing something you put so much time in and had experiences with. Im a sentimental kinda guy. Thats why i spend the next 5.5 hours of my life Blood/sweat/tears finding/retrieving this craft.

No that bird belongs to me, I was testing the range of my new Tx and it just got out of range and kept going East, it has a battery, servos, a motor and an esc, wings and a fuse,
man those new LiPo's really last a long time...went 1682 miles.....lolol

Awesome Mnemennth, great idea on the 2.4 already synced. I think it might be a 2.4...but i havent been digging around in the craft much. Its damaged and i already had to ditch the Batt cause it was bloated/punctured when i found it.

I lost one once, it went a quarter mile away and almost hit an old man mowing his lawn, luckily it missed him by a couple of feet, caught some low branches and cartwheeled into a chain link fence.....it was an old Combat Armadillo made of corrugated plastic. one hour later it was flyable again..but I didn't dare.....scared me to death.....

WOW...yeah, having a close call with a pedestrian would definitly put me in the jitters!

Luckily at that time I held an AMA license, and that came with half a million dollars worth of insurance...lots to be said about a license and ins....
I was very fortunate...needless to say.......NEVER happened again.......EVER......

Yep...thats going on my "to do" list.
