A tiny diesel engine AE 0.1CC

I took this video of an AE 0.1CC diesel last year. I thought I get around to building an airplane for it this year, but it still hasn't happened.

Ohhhh, I want that engine.

I love the spring starter around the prop.

Why is it common language in modelling to call these "diesel" engines?

I know they are compression ignition, sure.
But isn't there something else that is more accurate to define them? Its not running on any diesel right?

They have been called diesel since the dark ages. The fuel is made up of oil, kerosene and ether. In the video it was the second time I actually ran it, so it starts easier than that.

Diesel engines are engines that use the heat of compression for ignition. So, these are clearly such motors, the fuel is different to what you may know as "diesel" fuel.

The glow motors we also use in model planes are also technically diesel motors but aren't commonly called that. The example in this video uses an adjustment at the top of the head to increase compression till you get ignition.

Hope that makes sense.

If we get technical, both model diesel and glwo engines are HCCI type.

That would be perfect for it:

That radially mounted engine might be a viable alternative to those waiting for their PAL Imps.

Looks good Greg. It's even smaller than the Cox .010.
I made a 17" Nut Ball that flies at 3.5 oz. (electric).
The Cox puts out about 3 oz thrust. Maybe the AE with a slightly larger prop might generate similar thrust.
