@ the 3rd unit " defective " ... I would check my glow plug clip ... which has often being found shorted on the fields ...
0.5A look like a short protection current or a much too resistive wire ( ? )

Well, I found it! Some IFRZ44N's came in yesterday, so I thought with nothing to lose, (besides the cost of returning it to Hobbico) tried it on the first new unit. LO! comes out nice heat now.
Went into the warranty replacement and it too now works great. Guess you really can have a run of bad ones.
Need another 44N for the used panel and we'll see if my luck holds.
