Question
Does a left turn fin makes the left turn better?

Hi!

Dragon Shark 650 ep boat has a right hand side turn pin, and turns very well to the right. But the left turn is not good, as you can see in this video.

If installing another turn fin on the left hand side, will it improve the left turn or not?

Your input will be appreciated! Thank you!

Only a bit... the prop torque will always make the right turn tighter.

Try to get some of the bouncing out and it may help the cornering ,and yes a turn fin on the left of a mono hull will help it turn left most of the time .

It looks to me as though the centre of gravity may be too far back (needs to be 30-35% from transom, using velcro is a good idea as this makes it easily adjustable, once you find the sweet spot mark it with a marker).

Plus make sure your centre of gravity left too right is pretty well balanced or if it needs to be slightly off balance for some reason make sure the left side is the heavier as this counter act the torque twist from the counter clockwise rotating prop.

On a final note, try dropping the turn fin to it's lowest point if it isn't already as your hull seems very light on the water (possibly incorrect COG) and the chop is lifting the transom during cornering?

It needs trim tabs to help with the bounce,COG will make the most of his problem eliminated.Fine tuning this boat takes time,it should be a nose down attitude with rooster flying smoothly.Should be around 1/3rd -1/2 back for COG.

Rule of thumb is 30% of the length of the hull measured from the transom . Then you can adjust for best cg from there . You may also try to move the strut up as the boat looks like it's running real loose .

Hi Savage,

That boat needs some work on the general set-up; it's a stepped hull and should run much smoother without 'bunny tendancies' when getting up to speed

Judging by the acceleration (or lack there-of) the prop is too small, damaged, or flexing under load, try a metal one the same size and notice the difference in performance.

Keep in mind it's a single prop boat which will always turn better to the right, left hand turns at speed should be wider, after all, all races have only right hand turns...(with the exeption of the M-course).

Regards, Jan.
