First Flight- Sony Action Cam on DJI Hexa (9 min 50 sec)

Looks really steady! Will be interesting to see how much picture quality improves without the cover

Bill you or someone else may have already answered this but does the action cam output hdmi live video while it is on and/or recording? Can't find it stated anywhere yet.

Sorry Pug, I don't know. I kind of remember someone saying it does not, but it don't matter to me so I haven't investigated.

What is the best way to mount this camera on a quad WITHOUT the case..
As the bottom screw or the only way as i can see is With the case

Or..you could make a New "soft" case for it.
Let me know if you have something you can think off

I'm using the Xaircraft gimbal, WKM controller. Guy, I mounted the camera in the case, and will continue to do so, but future flights will be with the front/lens cover removed and the camera held in the case with a velcro strap below the lens. It would however be very easy to just make a mount from a block of foam or balsa.

Hi, I use cellphone mount + motor mount, have not try yet, raining season here...:banghead::banghead:

Haven't played with this any more, but just did get it ready to go again, sans the case front. I'll try to get more video this week, here's a pic of my mod.
The front can be removed and not damaged, I can add it back later if I need it.

Very impressive. I am going to be following this closely. I think the GoPro 3 has a few advantages (1080 P at 60 fps., maybe better in low light and better stills.) but it seems to me the stabilization of the Sony makes it very attractive to me.

The stabilization works great, and the price can't be beat. I couldn't believe the results I got right off the bat, I think without the case will be even better.

there's a slight jitter but I like the results you're getting. I'm leaning toward the sony now and am inclined to cancel my pre-order on gopro 3.

If it isn't too much trouble... at some point can you explain and show a photo of how this gimbal is attached to the F550? It seems quite far forward judging from the tight shot you have posted.

Alan, it is no sweat. I actually have two of these hexas done the same way. They both use the complete XA landing gear and camera mount. All I did was center an XA bottom plate on the DJI bottom plate, mark the holes and drill. No interference with the power supply at all.
The mount is no further forward than it is on the XA hexa, but the camera mount and battery mount have a lot of adjustment room.
