Filip E from nesail.com what setup

i'm thinking about getting the filip e from nesail.com. i have a mega 16/15/3 brushless motor and CC35 esc. can i use that setup on the filip. i probably have to get the 3:1 gearbox for the mega as well. can someone point me to the right direction on what spinner, prop, adapter, sizes i should get? filip e will be my first hotliner.

get the 4.3:1 gearbox, and throw a 14x9.5 prop on it. Use either 8 AUP or 8 FAUP cells, and you should be set. As for the spinner, call sal, but I think it's a 40mm spinner. The Yolk (prop adapter) you use will depend on which gear box you buy, and which brand prop you use, again, ask sal.

Good luck with yours, I crashed mine on it's maiden. I thought it was a radio hit, turned out it was a faulty esc...

yep I have one on my 2 turn mega. Ask sal about it when you order. Its a real planetary gearbox, not one of the offset boxes... I don't know the name of it, but it's a good one...

I've got a Maxon on my 2 turn. Got it at www.aircraft-world.com. Expensive, but oh so smooth.

I started out with a 16/15/3 and a 4.4:1 gearbox, but felt that the gearing was a bit to deep for this motor on 8 cells (you need the 14x9.5 prop with this setup and there is quite alot of torque on the airframe when you power up). Going to 10 cells would probably be better with that motor/box ratio, but I couldn't fit 10 cells easily. I swapped out to a 16/15/2 motor with the 4.4:1 box and a smaller prop (on 8 cells) and I am pretty happy. With the /3 motor on 8 cells I would opt for a smaller ratio, say 3.3:1 or so.

geng - go with the t-tail and mount the elevator servo in the vertical fin. Not only will this provide responsive control, but it is a must for the CG. I used the MX-50HP servo and it is the exact width of the fin up high. Then cut off the servo arm leaving the innermost hole and your pushrod and control horn will be 100% w/in the fin.

Regarding battery, you can go with a 9-cell 4/5AUP (3 end-to-end rows of 3 with the 3rd in the valley of the first two). I just upgraded motors (moved from the Aveox 27/13/3 to the 27/26/1.5) and moved up to a 9-cell 4/5FAUP pack to handle the higher (45amps) load.

When assembling, install the servo tray as depicted by the plans, but use this tray as a shelf for the battery. Stick the rudder servo behind the rear wing mounting bolts and the rx right in front of that. You will have plenty of room for these big packs.

Good luck,
-Russell

i already ordered the filip e through nesail earlier this morning. i'm going to run promaxx 3.3:1 GB with my mega 16/15/3 on 11X8 folding cam, and CC35 esc. not sure what battery i should run it with though. maybe 8cell CP1700 if they fit or else i'll just settle with 8cell CP1300. any of you guys have a similiar setup? and is it hard to build? does the servo arms comes preinstalled to the wing?

Geng - an 8-cell pack of CP1700 will not fit unless you go w/o a rudder servo and the receiver is under or behind the wing mounting bolts. Or you can fly around with the canopy off (I have w/a 8-cell pack of CP1700 before ;-)).

The Filip is easy to build (don't listen to Soho when he chimes in). Granted, you have to glue in a few blocks, drill a few holes, glue in the firewall, cut foam out of the wing for the aileron servos, etc.

No (assuming control horns) "arms" are installed. You have to glue these in yourself. It requires two small (and shallow) holes in the aileron and a thin slot in the elevator. Use medium CA for both.

Also using the Promaxx 3.3:1 gearbox. Let me know if you need pictures of anything if you have a question when building.
