Thanks TT, just had to Google denatured alchohol and it turns out to be...Meth's.
Have had a good supply of this in my cupboard all along, will let you know how I get on when I sheet the bottom half of the fuse.
Am suprised nobody had noticed the mistake on the front cover of the book in my previous post.

Its a Spitfire in Camouflage (Hurricane) so the Germans did not know how many Spits we had.

Have now got my leading edges, (missing from kit) many thanks to Slough Radio Control Models, and Ripmax for getting these to me with no quibbles, great service.
Have been working on the centre section and am really pleased with the sheeting.
Hatch needs to be a bit bigger though.
My cheepie retracts are giving me a headache, am going to have to cut into rib 5 and epoxy in to position.
Ordered my motor and ESC today (more Turnigy I'm afraid) will post the item details and pics when they turn up.

So I have not fallen off the earth!

I was in Mexico for dec and jan was a gong show.

In all of that I had gotten lots done on the spit. Fuselage is 95% done wings are done just waiting on the retracts so I can skin em and do the flaps and such.

I bench tested the power 90 on 6s with a 18x10 prop and was only making about 900 watts on my castle data logger so I'm thinking I either need a higher kv motor or run it on 8s...

Or go to a 16x16 APC pattern prop. Should give you reasonable amp draw and lots of power AND speed. This is what I use on my 1/7 Sea Fury with a P110 and 7S.

JDL, great to see all those bits of balsa begining to look like a Spitfire, those wing fillets look fantastic, any tips for me to get these right?
As far as your setup goes, I would have thought that 90 Watt/lb would give you pretty good performance from what I understand.

Stringers now glued in to position, that fantastic shape now begining to reveal itself.
The bits I need to proceed have now been dispatched from the warehouse, happy days!

Have now finished sheeting the fuse, you can see from the fact that I didn't need any filler that this was an absolute breeze (and I'm showing you the good side).

For anyone else having a go at this kit, the cockpit floor is not as wide as it should be, so don't trim down former F4 and F5 to match the width of the cockpit floor, or you will be adding filler to restore the profile.

Onwards and upwards, have joined the wings now just waiting for those parts to arrive to complete.

Update!!!

Whew been quite the last couple of months around here. I had a major flood that kind put a dent in my winter plane projects! House is almost all put back together now.

So here is where I'm at with the spit build.
Found a power system.
Got all the parts servos ect for it.
Finished the wood working.
Test fit the retracts.
Sorted out placement of ESC and battery in cowl.
Started glassing
FINALLY found a paint scheme to go with!

Looking good, how are you planning to access your battery?
That pilot also looks really good, where can I get one?

I'm really struggling with my retracts.
Oleos and slightly wider than standard wheels, have led to difficulties in getting the retracted wheel flush with the bottom of the wing.
Am going to have to bite the bullet and get the Robart items.

Will post some pic's so you can see the trouble I'm having.

Light at the end of the tunnel!

Almost ready for paint!

Fiberglass is all done and mostly sanded and the control surfaces are covered.

I'm going to get all the gear in for some ground tests before I finish and weather it.

For the battery I made a tongue on the bottom of the firewall.
A gens ace 4400 mah 6s fits in the cowl perfectly.

The e flite's retracts are working great. I to got some 89mm
Fat wheels that are fitting well after shaving down some ribs

Very happy with the build thus far.

More to come.
