HobbyKing Daily - HAL Hexacopter (1 min 25 sec)

I like the landing gear on this one , looks a lot stronger than the quad version.

Anyone have any info/builds on this? Think it would be hard to mount the aeroXcraft payload rails on this hex for my gimbal/battery?

I ordered one, no one else with one yet?

Build Notes:

1. Landing gear may or may not fit together from the factory, do not try to force it together as it will easily get stuck in place requiring you to drill it out and start all over. Some people were able to use lubricating oil, but I used a 5/16" drill bit to make it slide together easy. The diameter of the legs are bigger than the diameter holes they cut for them to fit in.

3. On the motor-to-esc wiring I used 18 gauge wiring from radio shack. (Heat-shrink, Zip Ties, Blue Thread-Lock, Velcro)

The bracing for the legs aren't drilled for the right sizing of the legs I'm gonna have to buy a drill bit and widen the hole to the correct size or sand the legs down thinner !!!!!!! Nearly tore up a legs trying to put them together hahaha. The rest of the kit is ok so far. This frame is stout. Arms have thickness to them. Seems like this is going to be a rigid aluminum frame.

Just hit the order button for this one too! I've been toying the idea between carbon, or Alum. I went the alum for the fact there will be not motor twisting, and I've got all the gear already

I USED THE BULLET PLUGS THAT I CUT OFF THE MOTORS FOR CHEAP/FREE BULLET PLUGS FOR ESC POWER
















So far so good. I flew it a few inches off the ground and everything is stable and going right. It feels like a stable helicopter

Landing Gear: The very bottom of my landing gear is stuck in place as far as I could get them. I was able to drill out the rest of the landing gear and put it to use. Dont make the mistake I made and try to force/slide the landing gear together ***IT IS NOT CUT RIGHT FROM THE FACTORY***

Gear Fix with drill bit persuasion. This is the only flaw in the whole kit. I used a 5/16" drill bit to make it right. If you try to put them together without drilling them and it starts getting snug.....its too late. Every move accumulates more and more aluminum so it wont slide backwards or forwards. In the end I ended up with good long landing skids and the stock ones are tiny. So far id highly recommend this multi copter. Day maiden coming.


Wooden Gear (ca hardened) next to stock gear. I think the stock gear is too short and I will replace the wood with even longer carbon fiber skids.

Led test and maiden came all at once lol. Led's are plugged straight into the power distribution board. Now i have one more 12v out from the power distribution board, which will be for the camera equipment.
Self Level Off in video, I thought it would be a bad idea to maiden with self level on. I wanted to feel the trim which needed no adjustment.

Single wire to positive for KK2 to read battery voltage. I went straight to the positive on the octo power distribution board using another unused clipped off motor bullet plug.

I'll echo the others - clean build.

I'm curious how many amps you're pulling through the power distribution board. I see where it's only rated for 10 amps on HK's website.

I think 6 of the 2217 will definitely fly this thing. They make 900grams of thrust at 15A on a single motor. So 6 x 900 grams will give you about 5400 grams of theoretical lift which should be more than enough to tote this ~2000gram hex. The bigger you make the gap between actual weight and thrust the better (all things equal like a battery that can supply 15A x 6 = 90A without puffing. I wish I had opted for the 35 series motors cause im so used to overpowered helis, but what I have now is more than enough for sport.

I actually just started playing with the PID settings when I realized that I left my charger at home. I started out with stock settings but have since changed since I activated self leveling / dampening. I will post vids and pics when charger arrives later this week.
