No, there's no significant delay. No longer than it takes to press the button.
When it takes a still, you have to wait for a 2nd beep before you can take another.

The timer pictured below was counting seconds (and milliseconds in the corner)

Only because youtube's compression is less dreadful in >1080 than it is in 1080 (the "4K" file as downloaded form youtube is 5x bigger than the 1080 file).

It's not due to the GoPro itself, there would be much less difference to see between a 1080p file and a 2K file directly out of camera.

Youtube works with profiles, and each has their own bandwidth settings. Uploading 2K has the advantage of making it use the "4K" profile instead of the 1080p profile, and allowing 5x more bandwidth. Now the stupid thing is that uploading 4k would still use the same profile, and thus the same datarate when there's actually 4 times more info to encode - and it would look awfully mushy again.
BTW, even that video in 2K on youtube is still barely worth 720p out of the camera...
We really lack decent online distribution methods. A correctly rendered edited file still looks wayyy better than anything youtube, vimeo or others could dream of providing. Especially with RC stuff that has high motion content.

I experience the same issues here, firmware is latest.

I did notice maybe 10% of recordings stop within a few seconds. It gets warm but not hot enough to hit thermal cut.

The other issue as discussed by other members is the fact that if I try and charge with the camera "OFF" the red light remains on after disconnecting. I then have to pull out and reinstall the battery before it will power on again. I work around this by charging with the camera powered on.

Other than those minor issues this camera is awesome!!

Playback issues are surely a limitation of the player. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema
Will need it for some of the heavy bitrate modes anyway. Search earlier in the thread for
where I describe what settings to use within that app.

Thanks Daemon, so I installed the MPC-HC and I can see the video.
But when I use the movie maker to edit and publish the movie I get exlamation mark.

The playback issues are when you go above 1080p, at least on my machine. Media player freaks out. It works in gopro studio, and vdub.

Also the video stopping turned out to be due to low battery. For some reason even though the battery was half full it was stopping. Now its fine.

Went for a bike ride to test it out. Looking at the footage the sky is white even though in real life the sunset was a pretty orange. The first thing I did was go on ebay and get myself a polarizer filter.
