There are nearly as many lobster boat shape and styles as there are builders. I have looked for years and have never been able to to find much of anything in the way of plans. You can fined line and profile drawings but not much in the way of dimensions. I finally gave up and decided to build one scratch.
I decided to try and duplicate the shape of a true "down east" hull that I had seen years ago. The name of the boat was the "Leonard W". It is quite famous and iss still talked about in lobster boat racing circles. Pictures of it can be found on a site called "Rumery's Boat Yard". The pictures do not do it the justice it deserves. I saw it in it's hayday and to me, it was the most beautiful hull I have ever seen.
The process I used to build it is complicated but not overwhelming to model builders. I am going to post a couple of pictures of the completed boat and if you are interested in attempting something like it I will try to help you as much as I can

Lowell of course shows how a real lobster boat is built... Rogers also builds with bent ribs, but does it with modeler's short cuts.

Unfortunatly the pictures I took of build detail had too many megapixels and I am unable to post them. The only thing that I could do is try to explain how I did it. I am not the greatest on this thing but if you are interested I will ttr to explain my building process in as much detail as possible. Just let me know.

Ah hah! Pixel-itis, but that's easily overcome if you have access to a kid/grandkid, or want to experiment with tools that are likely already on your computer... your images merely need to be edited to smaller sizes...

I have plenty of computer. I have an HP laptop with the i5 processor and all the bells and whistles you could want. I just don't know how to use about 80% of it. As far as experimenting with it, I am probably the only one on the planet the can mess up one of these things beyond use with the push of 2 or 3 buttons, so I don't mess with it much. For me it is pretty much a toy. I don't do any of my personal or financial stuff on it. My youngest son is pretty much the family computer guru and he lives about 65 miles from us so if I goof up big time I usually have to get him up here to straighten things out for me. It isn't always easy. He has 4 kids between 3 and 12 and they are into a million things so I call on him as little as possible. I am so numb on this thing that I don't even know how to move one of those smiley faces into this message block. The only thing I have going for me is the fact that I can type reasonably well Pretty tough to teach this "old dog" new tricks. LOL

BTW, in whatever program you use to view the images, you should have a resizing option... about 1200 pixels wide should be the max here... you may also find some options on "quality" or "compression", which keeps the pixel width, but squeezes the file size (with a slight loss of image quality). Just remember to "save as" with a new file name on your PC, or you'll overwrite your nice original...

I have just been messing around with this thing but can't figure it out on my own. Too many buttons, too many options, not enough "smarts" to figure it all out, Oh well, I guess I will just have to get my son up here somehow to help me out.
The last time he was here I had him set the pixel settings on my little Kodak camera so that I COULD take pictures that would fit within the pixel limitations. The pictures seen in report #3 were taken at that setting. At least now I can attach pictures of what I take and attach them to emails and places like this forum.
The boat shown in report #3 is totally scratch built. I carved a half model from which I took my frame stations, mounted everything on a building board and then planked it. It was quite easy and straight forward. Fortunately, I have have the equipment to mill my own lumber to the specs I want. I enjoy the challenge of solving the problems of my builds, but that enjoyment does NOT extend to solving my problems with this darn thing. So, I will just have to wait till my son can get up here and help me out. How DO you get those "smilies" into this message block anyways?

I just wanted to say thank you for that link that you put in your message. Being just about as dumb as a stump, it took me a while to figure things out. I listened to the video about 28 times and then read the write up about 30 times. Then I went at it. It took me a while to get it all coordinated but eventually it all came together. After a coupe of early on blunders I got the hang of it. Turns out that the process was not quite as complicated as I first feared. So far I have squeezed down 20 pictures and even managed to straighten out my early boo boos. Again, a very hardy thank you, Millertime, it was what I needed!

This post is for "patmat2350" who has expressed an interest in the details of my lobster boat build, and anyone else interested for that matter, and "MILLERTIME" who posted the link that got me going downsizing picture pixel numbers so that I could attach pictures to these posts and emails as well. I have managed to get the pixel count for my boats below the 300KB limit allowed for these posts. I will try to present the pictures in some kind of chronological and explain then as best I can. Here goes nothing!
