Sooooo, I am tinkering with the idea of building my own frame for a hex, but since I am a total noob in the field, I need some advice.

The parts I am planning on using for a start is these (going to start out with a quad-build, and then later on move forward with the HEX project as i gather experience)

I have now startet designing a HEX frame for fun, and wanted to get some inputs.



Will it be a bad thing to have the motors/props lifted above the main frame like in this design?

Do the props HAVE to be in a circle, or can the software be tweaked, or will it not matter if they are a tad off (in this design, they are not perfectly in a circle, but the middle ones slightly pushed to the center)

Planning on cutting this from carbon fiber 2 mm sheets, and right now, it has a weight of about 500 grams. Hobe to reduce this though.

Motor holder and prop protecters done. Still need a bit more plates for stabilizing on the main frame i think. Guess this isnt really a thing you want to crash with

Maybe if you posted in the scratch built board, you would get more responses

If multicopters are still new to you, I highly recomend you build a quadcopter first and get used to flying. Because you WILL crash, there is no avoiding that. Id rather ceash a cheap build than a home built masterpiece.

Under any circumstances, i will not take it to hard if i crash. I will just cut another one.

Planning on cutting the prototype in alu, and see how it handles.

Still have the questions about wether it is a sucky idea to have the motors lifted higher than the frame itself, as well as if it will cause me problems not having them in a total round circle?

Try it out, if it doesn't work then maybe the flight controller will have to be the same height as the motors, but in theory it should be flyable.

Think i will have it cut in alu in the upcoming weeks and try the setup out, and see how rigid it is, and then adjust from there.

A little update in the frame. Made room for ESC´s and two 2200Mah lipo´s. Total weight with lipo´s and ESC´s should be around 1 kilo. Also added landing gear.

Looks good but you need to reinforce where the arm attaches to the frame from what it looks like would be a point of disconnection if you crashed... the way it is now depending on how it crashed top or bottom would act as a pivot and put all the force on the bottom bolt or top bolt or screw depending on how it crashed hope this makes sense but def looks really cool and a good design...
