SHEESH TIM, I built one of those Skimmers( the real one evolved into the Lakes amphibian built up in Laconia N.H.) as a kid and have several of the Berkeley boat plans too. There was one that had a vacuform plastic hull it was a Chris Craft.

I'll chime in with the fact that "Scientific kits are still being built". One of our club members just finished this runabout about two months ago. jda

A lot of hard work and skill went into making that Scientific runabout kit look that good. Back in the day, they were not deluxe kits. But as seen here, the potential was there in the right builder's hands. Kudos to him.

I have one of those Scientific kits and can say that that gentleman put ALLOT of work into it. The kit has a ''pre carved'' balsa hull that needs lots of tlc just to make it reasonable. The Scientific kit I have has a hull molded from some type of plastic, was pre-painted but the paint has flaked off. Scientific had a C/C Riviera made the same way. Dyna-Model had a C/C 17'sportsman, a very similar kit but larger 1 to 1 scale, there is one on evilbay now that has been started.

This has been hanging around a Loooooong time ...

I realized that I do have a Sterling model after all, but not a boat ...

I built this in the 80's and have been carrying it around with me since...

Then there was the Enterprise ''SURF- SKIMMER'' 12'' long issued in RTR form and as a kit with no motor included but in the same box as the RTR. Made you think it was all built untill you opened the box. It had a 1955 copyright. You do see it fairly often on evilbay.

Yes, Charlie, I remember boat kits like the Enterprise one you show, back in the 1950's. I thought they had somewhat limited appeal back then because they seemed pretty small in size, even at that time. You could put a Wilson's of Cleveland Tiny Atom 1.5-3 v. motor in one to power it, but you would need to stock up on batteries, because it would go through them pretty quickly. And there was no recharging them, either.
Good memories - thanks for the pic.

JDA, That model looks like a Century Seamaid with the ''torpedo'' pattern deck, maybe an old Sterling kit??

Very lucky

Here is a Very special find, its a Very old Sterling plastic kit, a CC 42 foot Express Cruiser, ENTIRELY INTACT !

A well known member of this group ( one Mr. C. Eaton ) made this available to me understanding that I would take Very good care of it.

I will research it before I even Think about touching it.

Even has a copy of the plans, and bonus copy of Cobra plans !

Tim_B, this may be difficult but it must be brought up... this is how may boats in so many weeks? I think it is time to face facts. you, Tim_B have Boatitus. Yes, it is very scary sounding and it is indeed contagious. Once the signs are recognized, it can be lived with- many people have this their entire lives. First thing to do is convince the significant other that a "nautical themed" home is a happy home. Boats in the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms - even hallways and bathrooms make delightful decoration...

you are going to have to bring a few of these classics to the club! I'd sure like to have a look at them!

LOL!

Don't remind me about the "build rate vs. backlog vs. time remaining on planet" chart!

It's all fun!
