The only large one I'm familiar with is on my H-K 1700mm P-40N and the blades are sturdy but are club-like compared to refined types like APC. Just switching from the stock, but sturdy, prop on my FMS Stearman to an equivalent APC brought up the static rpm by several hundred rpm and reduced the heat buildup in the stock esc considerably. Performance seems to be at least on a par if not better; I don't have built-in calibration to know exactly, lol.
I dont think that those APC props are great for big planes. I use the Xoar Props on my big planes and are lot better

I was just comparing blade design and construction, not promoting a particular product. I don't know of an alternative yet for the stock blades that come for these planes or if there will ever be any.

But, for an example, the FMS Stearman stock blade thickness is 4.8mm, the equiv. APC is 2.5mm at the 50% blade station. That's a 11"x7" prop.

There's also the material to consider. I have a Parkzone prop from my Wildcat that actually bent near the hub rather than break, probably 20* or so. The material is so different (and to me appropriate) than the dense, matte textured formula that's come with the FMS planes. I'd prefer to have the material with the most tensile strength even it it has a gloss finish.

Though it is within "motor" engineering" to get a motor to swing a truely scale size, shape and number of blade prop, on ANY size model, performance of the model will be seriously degraded over a simple and appropriate designed 2 blade prop. The larger the prop, the slower the model will go (assuming input power is the same).

I still do not work (all the time) to a true scale diameter as I know that often either the motor does not exist (the resistance of most motor manufacturers to make motors with low enough kV's) or the models performance will suffer from either a high wing loading (adding larger motors and cells to get back the power to swing the big prop) or too slow a top speed due to the poor match of prop to airframe.

Tom

Well we will see next week how it all pans out as I am (as we type) having my true to scale (as close as I can without the actual VDM profiles) propellers printed out for my 1400 FW-190.

I have a 420 KV motor etc all ready to be installed for testing, so it will be interesting to see the numbers. I would like to run it on 4s however I think 5s will be more likely, but that's what real world testing is for.

Cheers,

Steve

That is a good idea next time to wait two weeks out to announce AND also have a certain time when the info will be revealed. Not bad having over 50 pages worth of guesses and random conversation. Seriously though can someone make a deadline of when the plane will actually be announced?

This thread is no announcement by FMS whatsoever. It is purely user-induced

FMS has not announced anything at all...

I understand what you are saying, but next time whoever chooses to spill the beans should have a time that they will reveal it. As much as it would suck to say, I would rather not know about a plane if it takes longer than a month to reveal.

So why start the thread at all??? now everyone is salavating over a airplane that FMS has no intention of pre anouncing but someone has inside info on. It was fun for a while, but it has gone too long is all I'm saying. Next time I hope the people with inside info wait a little closer to the time to let the cat out of the bag. Or... Maybe there is no new warbird

Well, the thread title tells its gonna be announced somewhen in November... the thread is barely two weeks old and we still have October and there are already complaints about it going too long?

Boy, this board is really moving at a weird pace sometimes... like last week seeming to be a month ago already... that said, who has a new guess about the hump?

not to mention if the wait is too long people will find other things to buy and by the time the new plane comes out they'll be at their budget. Seems like a bad strategy.
