You guys are much too hard on him.

I heard that he actually DID enlist, and he got a medal for injuries he received during his service.

He got carpal tunnel from ringing that damned bell all day long while in the Salvation Army.

Clearly, Mr Obama's opponent met your criteria, no?

Five Generations of Romneys never served their country. If you're happy with that fact, so be it. I'm not and will not Vote for Mitt Romney.

Not happy, Not sad. Not the important issue to me. The real choice for me is who do I think can turn this mess around: Do I want a lawyer or do I want a business man?

I'll take the Lawyer, at least he knows the difference between right and wrong.

Obama's going to win the election.

If that will make you sleep better, then go ahead and keep on believing that. But, you say the lawyer knows the difference between right and wrong. If that is really true, why does the idiot keep on choosing the wrong thing?

My beef with Romney isn't so much that he evaded the draft by having the money for a continuous education, and on religious grounds. Lots of the draft-eligible did that (who could afford it).

But, by going to France on religious grounds does indicate some personal moral obligation of his against serving. Again, that in itself is fine, but now, entering as a hawkish candidate for a political office where, if elected, he can (and will) ask others, rather than himself or his family, to fight and die, is a bit disingenuous (hence, the term chickenhawk).

I'm the same age as he is - when he applied for another deferment in 1969, I enlisted, and made a personal vow at that time to never vote for a hawkish politician who actively, by choice, avoided the draft during VietNam.

Again, that is just my opinion - YMMV.

I'm sure there are many families that meet that criteria, but for the life of me, I can't think of one that I know.

I'm more curious about where his family was in the late summer of 1857.
