An ultra skinny high aspect ratio Horten such as this would be, IMHO, problematic. You just don't see many examples of skinny Hortens.

Is this the one that flew once, went wildly out of control and end up in heap of splinters?

It's one of Alfons Gabsch' Hortens. I've seen photos of it from several events over the years so can only assume that it does fly with some level of success. My guess is that a bit of motive power makes the thing more manageable, but I'd be interested to know how the most outboard sections of the wing are constructed.

Some how it looks even skinner in the link. If anyone can build and fly such a ship, Alfons is the one. Did a quick search and could find no additional useful info...... Would like to see a video of this one in flight, especially without power at a high AoA.

Compared to tailed planes, each one of my 4 Horten style wings requires special piloting skill to get them around the block in one piece. Alfons's skinny wing must be a real treat.

The next step is to generate a bird-like fuse.

Here's fuse #1
The tail is about 10% of the wing area. Probably too small for a thermal ship. This tail needs something....not sure what.

Here's a CG check at 2 different wing sweep configurations. Quick work in Rhino 3D.

Version 2 will have a shorter nose and a longer tail, which looks better at the moment.

Q from the class- would V2 be a more stable planform- looks slightly more swept?

If you are suggesting that a swept wing with it's deeper effective chord (from tip of LE to rear point of the TE) will be more pitch stable than a straight plank, then I agree.

Straight Planks are famous for being "twitchy" in pitch and having a tiny workable CG range. I used to adjust the CG in my Alula by adding or subtracting one gram at the nose, which was 3 small lead shots. Not really attractive for a sport plane.

Increased sweep can create other problems, such as spanwise flow. Who knows, maybe that would promote tip stalls.

Only one way to find out....

Mmmmm, maybe it will flap its wings as well?? No seriously, nice work Kent, it looks like it will be a very unusual bird to say the least. With the right paint job you can scare the §§§§ out of the seagulls.
