old Arduino NG board
oha... these are little imortant infos... I think we didn't had this so far

from boards.txt
Code:
##############################################################

atmega168.name=Arduino NG or older w/ ATmega168
atmega168.upload.protocol=arduino
atmega168.upload.speed=19200
atmega168.build.mcu=atmega168
atmega168.build.f_cpu=16000000L

##############################################################

atmega8.name=Arduino NG or older w/ ATmega8
atmega168.upload.protocol=arduino
atmega8.upload.speed=19200
atmega8.build.mcu=atmega8
atmega8.build.f_cpu=16000000L
so, you first have to figure out if your board is Atmage168 or ATmega8 (a quick glimpse on the chip on there tells).

then in AVrBurnTool you should choose in (1)
- ISP AVR programmer: Arduino Bootloader
- Port: the one it is connected to,
- Baudrate: 19200

if you have the ATmega168 then you should choose in (2)
- target/device: Arduino with m168
and in (3)
- firmware hex file: owsilprog_v008_m168_16mhz_pb3pb4.hex

and things should go now!

if you have the ATmega8 then you have to do a bit more. You have to open the file "AvrBurnTool4owSilProg.dev" with an ASCII editor and modify the TargetList to
Code:
@TargetList= (
{
  name => 'Arduino with m8',
  uc => 'm8',
},{
  name => 'Arduino with m168',
....
and restart AvrBurnTool, and choose in (2) "Arduino with m8". However, you'll also have to wait for me to provide the owsilprog hexfile for an atmega8 with 16MHz before you can move on...
(I didn't thought that anyone would have still have an Arduino Atmega8 board... )

OlliW,
Thanks again for the info! i was aware of that.
I was stucked half day trying to download your FW to the Arduino NG (ATMega168) without much success until I remembered that I NEEDED TO PUSH THE RESET BUTTON! in order to be able to flash it...wow, only this took me half day to solve it...
Now im am preparing the GND, C2CK, C2D cables and looking for some way to firmly attach them to the pads on the Plush end.

I have read somewhere (cant recall now wher since i read so many pages im lost now!) is that if the Plush 25/30 firmware could ruin the FETs on the 40. Is this possible?
In the meanwhile i will be working on the final cabling setup for the Arduino to the Plush.
Thanks again for your valuable help (OlliW & Sirbow2)

This is where ive gotten so far.
Now, i will proceed with flashing the ESC.
Is there any prior test (before flashing the ESC) which i can perform in order to check if the connection between arduino and the ESC pads are ok?

ha... I got so used to the auto reset feature (although I hate that it can't be switched off easily) that I forgot about this... thx for bringing this back to my attention (should make a memo on the tutorials web page I guess)

no. and you won't need it, if the connections are wrong it wouldn't work and wouldn't do any harm (the first thing which BLHeliTool does is to check the connections with a non harming read of the device ID)

I am not sure, but from the pictures it seems to me that you might have swapped C2CK and C2D... the sequence is GND, C2CK, C2D, while your black and orange cables on the pad connector seem to be in sequence GND, C2D, C2CK. Compare your above figure with http://www.olliw.eu/uploads/owsilpro...heme-02-wp.jpg

otherwise, looks real GOOD...

Accurate observation! i swapped C2CK and C2D on purpose since first tests didnt go well so I followed your previous advice on swapping them but still receive the same error message :

"
Flash hex file... Please wait!
delay... OK
v... Connection to target FAILED!
"

Cables come from Arduino ISP connector as shown here:

Do you mean continuity?

this error message does mean that your connection between PC and Arduino via the COM port does not work... (nothing to do with the C2 lines yet)

select the same COM port as you did before in AvrBurnTool
do NOT press the reset button at some point... power up the Arduino and give it few seconds for the bootloader to finish... and then do BLHeliiTool actions

BTW: isn't it that the "old" Arduinos had bootloaders which waited for something like 8 secs before they would start the main program?

Yes, 6-8secs wait before starting main program.
I proceed like you describe but still same error message.
Arduino is connected all the time, those messages appear while trying to "Flash" action.
Are you sure pressing the "S1" button in the Arduino is not necessary before hitting "Flash"?

I changed Baudrate to 38400 and now i get this:

"Read... Please wait!
delay... OK
v... OlliW SilProg v0.08 PB3PB4
r... rok
d... Connection to target FAILED!
"

Continuity is (between pins on Arduino and ESC pads) ok, checked also swapping C2CK and C2D but still getting the same message.

how could you change the baudrate in BLHeliTool... I thought I only did allow 38400... have to check this

yes, absolutely... the owsilprog code on the Arduino must run... and not the bootloader...

this error tells that the connection between the Arduino and the BESC is not working (it's the device ID read I mentioned before)

I am convinced that your Arduino programmer is now properly working. So the issue is IMHO in the connection to the BESC.
The BESC needs power, is it connected to a battery?
Any chance that your identifcation of the GND pad might be incorrect. Have you tried also to attach your connnector 180° turned around, assuming that the pads are as C2D,C2CK,VCC,GND from bottom to top (and not GND,VCC,C2CK,C2D from bottom to top as drawn currently)?
