"3D" Ignition Drop Down Diode for A123's.

These are virtually the same as available from several mail order vendors. I just made a bunch of these up and will pass the savings to you!!!

For use with A123 batteries, these will drop the voltage to your ignition module by about 1.3vdc.

1. A set of diode rigs, ready to go!

2. My test battery (EP Buddy 2300 mAh LiFe)

3. Battery voltage (6.97vdc. It had already been running the cooling fan for a few minutes prior to this picture)

4. Voltage showing on my cooling fan (6.92vdc)

5. Voltage at the fan through the "3D" Drop Down Diode (5.37vdc (it was bouncing between 5.37 and 5.38vdc))

Approximately a 1.55vdc drop!

This little rig will give you about a 1.3 - 1.5vdc drop that could save your ignition module from dying from an over voltage situation (remember, your A123 will show over 7vdc directly off the charger...).

These are made with standard 1N4002 diodes (they have the "Motorla" 'M' on them) and from what data I can find on the web, the 1N4002 diodes are 1000v, 1A forward current, but can take 30A surge current.

RCExcel ignitions, for example, from what I've read, use only about 650mAh when running.

There are two diodes in series on these rigs, for 2 amps. I guess I could have explained that up front.

series doesn't add on current, same current will pass through both of them.

They work, I've been using this setup on 30cc DLE's for a few years now..... or you can spend $30 on a switching regulator.
