Hi Mick,
You've done it again, resurrected a tired old boat into a thing of beauty, your skills with wood and F/Glass are remarkable, look forward to the finished article.
Is it to be steam powered or electric ?
George.

Hi Tim,
I got this fibreglass hull from someone attempting to build a Coaster but gave up, I liked the hull lines which suited a Steam Drifter apart from the transom, I completely stripped the hull raised the freeboard with a new deck and hatch openings added a counter stern which made it the correct length for 24th scale wooden Drifter Resolute which was 116 ft long & 23ft beam. I understand that only 4 hull mouldings where made.

Hi Mick,

Can you point us to anything (drawing, characteristics...) about the planned E. Westbury engine ?
I believe this engine will be built from scratch ?

Hi Alain,
The engine came with the boat but did not work, stripped and rebuilt now runs very well and will tickover on 5psi steam pressure it is also very powerfull, bore 1/2" stroke 3/4" and should
be just right for scale speed of the Drifter which was 9 knots
running at 25 to 30psi. The design is quite easy to build with no
castings needed I have not been able to find any plans for this
engine but I believe its a copy of Edgar Westbury single cylinder oscillator doubled as a twin

Hi Mick,

thanks for your reply, I have searched on the net and found nothing !
Your engine is similar to the Stuart D10 for power available...

Just found these infos about Westbury engines on another ME site :

Its very similar in appearance, but in know way matches performance, I built a Thames launch Miranda 6 years ago and the boiler all to Basil Hartley design, not only were the hull line plans wrong also the engine dimensions incorrect the engine and boiler were far to heavy for the displacement of the hull, it ended up a museum piece as it sat 1/2 below the waterline.
There is a video of Miranda on youtube running in a neighbours
swimming pool, when I find the link I will post it.
