My buddy PayPal 'd me and it took a week to clear, neither of use can figure out why ,other than it was an E check.
Fortunately I know him and that he has the money, we have sent stuff back and forth before but this one time it hung.

Yup, and it's actually 3-5 business days, which can end up being about 1 1/2 weeks.
My E-check payment that I had and was not aware of funds being sent in this manner was like this and resulted in the item being shipped about two weeks after initial funds transfer. All was cool with the buyer and the whole trade was mutually satisfying.

I had the issue with my account only sending E-checks,,, after digging I found I needed to confirm my CC billing address or something like that,, then it when back to instant transfer as the default option,, But for a few weeks I could only send e-checks,, really defeats the whole purpose of paypal if it's slowed by the e-check process

And that can be OK.
Nothing wrong in using E-checks to send as a buyer or receive as a seller.
What works well is that both parties know and accept.
Kinda like a USPS MO. Just takes more time for things to happen.

The easiest way to avoid the hold on funds is to list a debit card as your secondary payment method which is debiting from the same account as your checking. Once you do this, payments will credit to the other party immediately.
