How to straighten an aluminum wing tube?

Got a bit of a bend during a hard landing – what’s the best way to get an aluminum wing tube straight again?

Pushing a dowel into it?

Chuck it in a lathe and add a bit of pressure?

???

TIA,

Jim

I'm a retired machinist, and believe me, you will never get it straight, and it will always have a kinked spot in it. As stated b4, just bite the bullet and buy a new one. I aactually found one at an Ace hdwe, that was close enough to use. Roy

Aluminum does not straighten well.

Just replace it with carbon fiber and you will never have that problem again.

Right, instead you'll have a broken/cracked wing tube and no desire to try and straighten it.

Put it in a press and bend it back 180, no that won't work either....

The usual way is to force an interference fit rod down the tube. But as others say - it's a weakened tube and best replaced.

Personally I would not replace with CF - there is a reason for choice of material and making it more stronger may in fact create another problem that is harder to correct.
Most tube can be found at DIY stores ... and no need to pay out LHS inflated prices ... (sorry shops ... )

Chucked them up in a lathe and used a live center to keep the tube straight.

Then drove (attempted to) a wooden dowel into them -- didn't keep them straight .

Maybe I'll find some when I'm in Taipei next week as I can't find them here: OD/ID/L (mm), 15 / 13 / 315 & 10/ 8 / 175 .

I have straightened motorcycle fork tubes by putting supports under each end, bend on top, and applying force to the top of the bend.
