Description:
A place for scratch builders and kit builders to share build logs, building techniques, problems, plans and there own designs.

Justification:
It's very hard to find Scratch builds around and share techniques on how to do them. Normally you can only find a ARF being put together. Also the foam builders can have their own forums so why cant we .

I think probably "Balsa Builders" or "Woodies" or some other cute catchy name is probably better than the name under proposal, but we'll see if the forum gets community approval first.

YES- I'm a traditional materials (read: old dude) builder!

I am also a traditional materials builder but I'm not an old dude. Maybe it has something to do with being a cabinet maker for 8 years.

I have a 157 page thread as of today (10/2/2012) that has gone on for 3 plus years promoting building in these materials, entitled: "How do we bring model building back?" I would love to see this topic started!!!!

Way to go Mode One. I'm into to all disipline's as far as material's go. Right this minute I have a wing in the bag for a fast sloper called the Tango. Already made the fuse mold's and 1 fuse. Almost 1,500 view's over on the slope forum.

Most all is already covered within the RCG forums and various subforums.

Now, a whole new forum, that allows multiple subforums does sound quite interesting and fasinating. Similar to the newer Multirotors forum, with mutiple subforums.

BTW,
"Woodie" refers to a wood based sailplanes and has also involved into a class for completion.

Don't want to argue over a name,but I would like to defend it.

We've become accustomed to it,and it describes what the OP (Rctrainerplane) wanted to do.

Could it include wings made of Balsa and those little white beads?

Some gliders were/are built that way , with wood fuselages and control liners are still being built that way

I would say to make it a scratch build forum for all types of planes. There are many build logs that are placed in the categories that they best fit. (Sailplane, Gas, Electric etc.) Scratch builds don't have a home of their own and since building is building no matter what the type of plane, I feel it's fitting they have a home of their own.

BTW.... If I'm not mistaken, the longest running thread with the most posts on the entire site is the "I'm getting a woodie" thread in the Thermal section. 1606 days and 10,688 posts so far and still going strong. It's like a home away from home for some of us and there's a lot of good tips and tricks in it.

That's Fine. "Woodie Builds/Building" I have no challenge or a need to arque, as I just made a respectable current reference, and nothing more.

Oh, those little white beads use to be plant based, like wood.

I would have to agree with Earl on this one. Those of us who have follwed this thread from the start are used to the name it has and would most likely like it to stay the same if not real close to the same. Plus when I think of a Woodie I think of a Wood paneled station wagon with surf boards on top. LOL
