First Flight with new DJI F550 (video)

Never flown one before, so I was a bit nervous

She was pitching forward a bit when launching, but after giving a little stick, she leveled off and it was smooth sailing from there

thanks for sharing, i had a good time watching the videos. any idea what happened when you lost control? The failsafe looked like it activated.

That's exactly what happened.

As I was following her in the sky, I stepped in a dip in my front yard and flicked the fail safe switch by mistake

I had never used it before and don't even know what setting it's on (Land or RTH)

I'll find out for sure when I plug it in tonight.

What receiver are you running on your 550?

AR6100e

I have a bad feeling it might not support fail safe

Yeah I'm pretty sure it doesn't. I don't use Spektrum but I think you need a 7xxx series Rx for programmable failsafe.

Your 550 lost signal, and instead of Naza getting "failsafe" it got "last signal received"

Please excuse my ignorance, but could you explain "programmable fail safe"

Does this mean total loss of signal (like turning the radio off or going out of range) or does it mean switchable (as in programming a specific switch on the Tx to go into fail safe, but still have active Tx/Rx communication)

I had this hex built for me with the intention that I could flip a switch if I get into trouble in the air and have it safely return to home.

I have yet to test this feature out (at least not on purpose lol)

Would I still be able to use autoland or RTH using the provided switch?

There has been so much confusion with failsafe with WKM and Naza.

Programmable failsafe is when you take your radio and your receiver, you look in your user manual, and you program them together for a loss of signal occurrence.

You might program your receiver to output partial throttle, center cyclic, etc. An airplane might be zero throttle, slight down elevator, etc, whatever you decide might cause you not to crash.

Your process for your Naza would FIRST be to program a switch on your transmitter for the mode to highlight "failsafe" on the DJI assistant software.

THEN, when you set your failsafe for your RADIO, you would want to program your receiver to output the signal that is occurring when the radio has your failsafe switch (setup on the assistant software) actuated.

This is a huge stumbling block for many many people.
Naza failsafe programming is in no way related to the actual programming of the failsafe between your Tx and Rx. The two functions work together, but they are not the same.

If you have a receiver that does not have a programmable failsafe, then when it loses signal its just going to keep outputting the last known signal.

And likewise, with that receiver, your Return to home and failsafe switch (one in the same) will never work right.

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't want you to lose your machine. I think you should keep it grounded until you can upgrade the Rx to something that has the functions you need.

Did you see how fast your 550 went down? It could have kept going up just as fast until the battery ran out.
