Landing Gear

514's have been dry fitted into the stock locations for the mains. I had to shave 1/16" (1.58mm) on each side of the wall to allow the 514's to slide into the recessed bay for the servoless retract. I still have to carve out about 3mm as the 514's are a bit taller than the stocks.

Reason for doing this- in stock config, there have been reports of bending the 4mm shafts. The 514's have 5mm shafts. As I need to plan for taking off from grass, I also plan to use larger diameter tires. So have decided to beef up the retract, strut and tires.

What would be even nicer would be to use the larger 716 retracts found on many 1700mm FMS warbirds. These are a bit slower when extending/retracting than the OE and 514's and very robust. They are the same width/height as the 514's but due to the size of the larger motor, are longer. Testing shows this could get in the way of the dual wheels when retracting, so may not be a viable option.

Update 04.12.13

Was in a cutting (foam) mood and decided to mess one last time with the larger 716 retracts. Here is a pic and data from Sandancer that shows the different retracts. The 312 (shown on top) is what Ming designed and supplies with the 737. 3mm pin is too small for the weight of this aircraft. 4mm is much better. I wanted to use 5mm so originally opted with the 514.

First off I'll start with the PZ-15090 / 312:
Dimensions: 66.2mm x 25.8mm
3mm-4mm strut
Operational voltage: 4.8v-6v
Flight weight: 2.5kg / 5.5lb.
Price range: $7.50-$12.50 ea. *depending on either a plastic or metal trunnion

PZ-15091 / 514:
Dimensions: 74mm x 28.5mm
5mm strut
Operational voltage: 4.8v-6v
Flight weight: 5kg / 11lb.
Price range: $7.99-$12.50 ea. *depending on either a plastic or metal trunnion

PZ-15096 / FMS PZ-V2 / 716:
Dimensions: 93mm x 30.8mm
5mm strut
Operational voltage: 4.8v-7.4v
Flight weight: 8kg / 17.5lb.
Price range: $17.50-$19.99 ea. *metal trunnion

The wings

Some upgrades need to be done to stiffen the wing and across the engine pylon mount especially if one planes to add functional flaps.

I plan to use a combination of ideas from Spyro and Doug W. I'll update once I am at the point of that construction.

Speaking of Doug W, he came up with a very inexpensive mechanism to allow the flaps to swing down giving the wing more area. I am working on an alternative that should push the flaps back (about half an inch or the width of the spoiler), then down about 35 Here's to wishful thinking! I plan to use Doug's method in the event my idea doesn't work.

In order to do either, I am going to have my flap hing fairings vacuum formed so that I won't have to hog out foam as many other have needed to do. Might also do this to the wing tips to allow for scale navigation lighting allowing for ample room with both.

Most likely will wrap the wings in Oracal 651.

Seeing all the advancement and homework done with the 10 blade change sun fans, I would have loved to go with these however, I've already invested in a pair of counter rotating fans from RC Lander.

Planning to use a pair of RC Lander 68mm counter rotating fans

I love the 10 blader's but I'll stick to what I got.

I conferred with Tim Wan of RCLander and he said these would be fine at 5S (no higher than 35c).
