I am also building the Aeronaut Rafale Aramid version.

I have converted it to 90 mm with the Jetfan90. Mainly because of the sound but also because of the effeciency at high speeds.

I am using the Het 700-1200kv motor w/ 10s 4000 mah.

I have used the eflite 15-25 retracts. They fit but you need another way to make the nose gear door close than the method used in the manual. Pictures will follow...

the overall FRAME weight is about the same or heavier for the foam verison as it has way more servos, lights ect..... minus the batts.

Yes, it's a very very light airframe, the glass/Kevlar is very thin (about 1mm).

With today's EDF technology I should be able to make this baby go really good.

My original I built stock but have noticed that some people have moded to have plugin wings, rudder, even functional canards.

I'm defiantly adding rudder, not sure about the plugin wings and maybe functional canards just for kicks.

i wouldnt change the the wings to be plugin, it could make the build process to complicated. Im sure Herb tried one with functional canards and it made no difference in the way it flew. also you cant have the canard on a common shaft because the root edges of the canards are not parallel, and the shaft would be in the way for putting batteries in too. A rudder would be nice tho.

What does the full size Rafale uses the canards for? Is it pitch & roll or pitch only or brake.

they make for a tighter turning radius in any direction. ive flown with and without them on my euro and it does make a difference when your doing high alpha and tight high G turns. it helps me when pulling into hovering and very high alpha manuevers

I've got one of these in my loft....I like the idea of plug in wings.

I found these pics on one of the build threads noted on post #7.

the wing span on this jet is only about 36". you think its worth the effort and added weight of removable wings?

if you do build them, the habu32 uses a good guide mount , i think would be suitable for this euro.

Personally I don't know if I would do the mod for the removable wings, but the pictures are for those who are interested.

I started work today by cutting new main gear mounts (Only need to drill the holes for the retracts), I cut it out of solid aircraft ply.

Next I will tac glue the assembly using CA and dry fit it in the fuse, if all looks good I will epoxy/hysol the entire assembly together getting it ready to final gluing in the fuse.

I would like to see if I can find some struts that would work in this aircraft, will have to look around.

Also I intend to upgrade the retracts trinion to TamJets alum. one, will have to make an order from him soon as I need other things from him as well.

If you build it, that son of yours in the picture could fly it! Just don't wait until he can't fit in!

This is the mounting I have made for the jetfan 90mm. I am working on a balsa duct to combine with the existing glasfiber duct.

Well, I got the bulkheads/main gear assembly all glued with CA (going to touch it up with epoxy/hysol), I also test fitted in the fuse and all looks great.

Next, I would be gluing assembly to the fuse, I would like to do a better job on it then I did last time when I used Hysol, it was/got messy......any tips????
