Either use a shorter tube or you can use 1/2 or 3/8 (13 or 10mm) carbon rods and install them as anti rotation pins. 4" in the front 8" in the back. They will give you extra strength and you can use regular drills to make the holes.

What you ended up doing in the wings? Any reinforcements? Or just straight gluing?

I Reinforced the root facing ribs with 0.5mm carbon plate + drilled holes through them, I laid 3K carbon cloth on both sides of the wing spar (3-4" from the wing root, did it before caping the wing panels), used hysol on all, going to reinforce the seam with carbon cloth in the next few days.

Test fitting the tail half of the jet, This thing looks siiiiiiiick

I weighed what you see in the pictures (airframe & retracts) and it came out at 1309g, I say its pretty light for this size bird.

Should rock n roll with that fan setup!

SK, ive used the same gear set up for hundreds of flights on pavement and grass. that front trunion will break easily on a grass strip. try to land with the wheel straight, no rudder to help avoid that. otherwise you can expect it to crack.

Hi, Thought I would just post a couple of pics of my completed Rafale,

Doors and retracts are all pneumatic a right pain to get right, fan is the recommended aeronaut one with a neu 1912/1y nice and light set up for 9/10 cell.

They have a little odd flight characteristic when taking off or rog' it tends to head straight back down once it has broken ground easy to catch if your waiting for it the rest of the time its a pussycat to fly and land..

Will take some photos of the doors etc tonight.
Briefly the retracts are the aeronaut air up spring down ones, no electric available when I built this one, I tried for weeks to get the spring wire and string thing to work correctly but the doors being so thin would not close fully all along their length so I managed to fit some tiny air rams from hobby city, now here is the bit I'm proud of the air open air closed doors and air up spring down retracts are all sequenced from one servo driving two valves . Probably needs a picture to explain but works real well and no costly sequencer could probably do with a low air failsafe but belly landing this bird on grass is not totally out of the question.
The paint is an automotive polyester basecoat with cellulose thinner, followed by a 2K clear coat. As a friend told me when he saw it 'you've just built a plane that will be near impossible to repair!' Try retouching a multi colour fade with stripes on top.
I don't have the canard working there is a thread somewhere where a guy posted some nice cad drawings of his set up with a corected / balanced pivot point and the lever detail inside. I havnt flown mine much but the canard are not necessary to slow it down for landing, it's a Delta and will take a great deal of high alpha to bleed off speed.
The cog is exactly as per the plans and this means approximately 3 to 5 mm of control surface up trim/deflection looks very odd like this but it together well once it gathers some speed. I liken it to the flying wings like a zagi these have plenty of up trim to.
Will try and get some pics of the doors etc up soon.

Functional canards, I found these pics on another build thread.

a couple small carbon pins from the lamination into the canard will prevent it from coming loose and causing a crash.
