ill be building a sport plane in the next month or so as funds permit. i just about hit the buy button on a asp91 from hk. it cost 130 after shipping. i stopped myself and decided i better think what you guys think of it first.

i know i have read alot of good reviews on it but that may not be the full picture.

For the money it's one of the best out there.It's the same as the Magnum line of engines.Make sure you oil it up good before breaking it in.You can remove the backplate and oil up the con-rod.And you can take the valve cover off and oil up the push-rods.When breaking it in, don't run it wide open at first.Let it run about 1/4 throttle.Then graually go to wide open,after a tank or two.I run at least 4 tanks through mine during break-in.
Buy it without hesitation.Take care of it,run the right fuel,it should last.
What are you going to mount her on?

4Stroke? I've got one in a WM Super Chipmunk. Easy starter, plenty of power and smooth transition from tickover to full throttle. I've also got an older Magnum branded one in an Extra, again it runs a treat.

In my experience it is best to buy ASP/Magnum engines from somewhere you can get a warranty, I have had to use the warranty service for my Magnums several times.

Hobbypartz has them listed for $88 with free shipping, but surprise is out of stock. A guy in the club is happy with his which was on sale for $77 from there.

I can't speak for the 91 but I have a Magnum 108 which has exceeded my (very low) expectations.

I bought it out of the bargain bin at the local model shop, it was returned under warranty with 'noisy bearings'. It's still running those bearings & the two problems I've had have been fiddly low speed needle adjustment & the exhaust flange was not flat so it leaked like a sieve until I sanded it flat with some fine emery cloth on glass.

It's inverted, cowled & running a custom exhaust so it leads a hard life in a Top Flite P-47 but has been a great engine so far. It's about 14 years old. - John.
