Nice going, crash!
As you may know, I decided to try a virtual build using 3D CAD design, mainly to improve my skill. As predictable, I started what turned out to be a fairly different version, with the F-23A dwg downloaded. Then I spent the small amount & purchased the up-ship drawing package of the YF-23 version; hoping to get more sections around the canopy area, assuming it was the same fuse (wrong!) ![]() .I'm envious of your fast progress. Keep on trucking. Phil Lin |

Hi, crash!
I did not know if the F-23A was actually built or just a plane on paper in the ATF proposal after the flyoff btween the YF-22 vs. YF-23. I simplistically assumed (as usually do) the A was using most of the Y's design unless noted. I don't hav the sharp eyes for details, as CN & others hav ;until I did actual CAD work. Perhaps others can input if PAV 1 &2 were both YFs as I understand each down selected competitor were to build 2 flying airplanes for the fly-off (I suppose partly as insurance in case one crashed?).The Y for one has a slimmer nose; I suppose the A needed a fuller nose for radar. Tried to graft the A nose onto the Y fuse, but found the A has a more rectangular (rounded corners) x-section, while the Y was more circular. You're correct the A dwg showed GE mills instead of the PWs. Perhaps due to digitizing inaccuracy, wing planforms were not exactly identical. But the dwgs clearly show there was a difference between the A & Y air intake shapes. These are just some I found. If I go ahead & build, I will go with the A, just to be different. I'm enjoying your build thread.Phil |
