CNC foam cutting machines and software

After reading alot of CNC stuff I find myself getting confused and mixed up with CNC router stuff. Im only interested in Cutting foam cores at this time and would really like to hear from people who have actually made and operated there own CNC systems. I am going to build my own and have sourced only a few websites but have no idea on what board to buy and which software to get. Plus I keep finding out that if I had bought some kits I would still have to buy power supplys and other equipment. I want quality but I'm not a very rich person, all I need is enough info to understand it ALL or enough to know exactly what I am doing.
Any help will be extremely valued.

I also dont understand how my drawer slides will hold the cnc arms. Are they constructed like a C section so the rollers dont pull out under pressure? Ive looked at drawer slides and there all wrapped up so I cant get a propper look at them, as I know some slides only have the drawer sitting on them. Can some one post a couple of good pics of good sliders to use for me as I sure im not the only one here. Thanks.

Intrex, have you found this thread (purely CNC foam cutting):

I am happy with my machine+software, but I still have some finetuning in the automatic heat control to do to optimize results.
Regarding forces on the sliders: you should realize that if you use a cutting bow, the main force to consider is weight. The foam is melted ahead of the wire (when the speed is set correctly), and it will not excert an additional force on the mechanism.

Max.
