I do see some obstacles for larger cameras, and I think it will either require more powerful motors (maybe significant power drain), or belt/gear driven BL motors.

I'm primarily watching the Viacopter site for the board that the European group ends up producing. They've been good to deal with on the AutoQuad stuff, so I'll try to grab one of those when they have them available.

Cheers,

Same here. They are stand up folks. Fixed some issues with my AQ no questions asked.

I also thought about belt driven BL motors rather than direct drive. Though Alex seems to have figured out the gimbal for a 550D, which makes me think that bigger sizes will happen.

That looks nice and simple, and it looks like it is fairly light weight. Would you mind sharing your construction techniques?

Rusty, what's the best way to attach the camera? I remember you mentioning some pages back about a 100 that you had. What type are they? I'm using the standard kit plate.

Its hydrographics. You can buy that carbon looking film that will liquify if you put it on top of water and spray activator on it(Im not very good at it, but looks ok if you dont look too close ).
Best price I found was here: http://elpasopowdercoating.com/

Its 1lb 1oz. I brazed(soldered) 1/2" aluminum tubes. Those strange looking things that hold camera plate are made out of instamorph stuff.

Any idea what 700 size frame you might use as a starting point?

Currently I have a Frankenstein Trex 550-stretch-700 heli I'm working on. I have also been dabbling with a more custom machine, but using as many COTS parts as I can.

It is Hansen that has 100 tripod screws. You need some? You can find 1/4-20 thumb screws at local hardware stores.

Hah, that's hilarious, I just realized Copter Kids hacked up a standard canopy and mounted it backwards!

Just bought a second hand Nex 5n with 16mm pancake and 18-55mm standard zoom. If weight was no issue (building a UAP-1 X8) what lens would you prefer for AV?

The 16mm is a lot more forgiving.
