Help!
Looking for compatible muffler bearings

I got what looked like a good deal on a used four-stroke motor last April. It's actually in pretty good condition aside from the muffler bearings. They're shot. It's got a nice tuned pipe on it but the bearings start grinding and sticking as soon as it warms up a little. They definitely need replacing, but I can't for the life of me find any new ones to install and I really don't want to buy a whole new muffler. Tried searching RCG and Google, and I perused Boca's stock. Nothing's come up yet.

Can somebody help me get my bearings here?

Lots of the guys at the club get their engine parts directly from the disributer. Try that. What company is the engine from?

I had one with a similar problem. On mine the bearings worked loose somehow and were rattling around in the pipe. I ended up prying them out and found it actually worked better without them. I don't recall the muffler brand, but the bearings looked suspiciously like marbles. I was going to post a pic, but it seems I have lost my marbles.

My understanding is that you only need muffler bearings if you are going to run it 'dry'. If you put a LOT of grease on it, you should be fine. This is how they did it in the old days. Just pack that muffler full of grease, and all should be fine.

Be sure to get metric bearings... they fit better.

I had a three stroke once that acted up in a similar fashion. Turned out it was a bent Johnson rod where it attached to the Canuter valve. This caused a lot of problems with the Bluxphamanian fuel pot sensor which ran it stoic and overheated the muffler bearings. I tried packing the muffler with grease as suggested earlier but still had the same issue. Turns out it needed striped grease with metric threads and a left twist. After that I haven't had any problems with muffler bearings wearing out or over heating but now I can't keep the plane clean for some reason. Every time I fly it ends up with a new pin stripe pattern and it won't come off unless I run it through the dishwasher. She's getting pretty tired of it though.

Muffler bearings have been been a topic of discussion back before your father was born.
