I know its been a while since i have introduced plans for my next build but lucky me i have been n holidays.. lol . so that said i will state that in the coming weeks or so i will begin my latest epp build. the A-10.
will be about 800mm wingspan and will have a single pusher motor mountd in the tail of the fuse.
should be fun
am hoping to do some cutting and shaping 2moro. pics comin ASAP!

ok so i had a bit of a build sesh yesterday and the follow pics and information contain my results
indicated CG: 36mm aft of leading edge at wing root (to be confirmed)
RTF weight: 365g
motor: 24g 1700kv blue wonder
battery: 1300mah 3s 20c
servo: x3 9g
esc: 12amp turnigy plush (max current = 10.5amp and 105watt)
-REQUIRED 10g OF BALLAST IN THE NOSE
was a simple build with the only problems coming from aligning the fuse/vertical stabs and mounting the engine naccelles to be straight :-/ lol
decided to have it as a yank and bank flight control system using only ailerons/flaps and elevator, as i saw it would be difficult to add a set of rudders without bringing the overall weight up considerably. hence the "criticalness" <(not sure if thats an english word but oh well) of the fuse and vertical stab alignment..
will paint after the maiden. on which point i am open to suggestions. Was thinking about mainly black with red somewhere, perhaps the tips.
below in the 'notes' section ive added tips ive found during testing to improve the model should anyone wish to copy this model.
- the max amp draw with the current running gear is only 13amps static. with this i found the model has more than 1:1 power. SO i think if it was running a 5x5 prop or less on a 12 amp esc, one could reduce the flying weight more as the 20amp esc weight more than x2 the weight of the 12amp esc. i believe that the plane would still have more than enough power to continue flying.
- if using the power setup i went with, the 12amp esc requires some open air to cool it, just enough to vent the heat to atmosphere. see pic in post #13
- if using the 1300mah 3s lipo then 10-15g of weight is required in the nose. i have found though a battery of 115-120g perhaps a 1500mah 3s can take the place of the ballast weight resulting in longer flight times.

In my opinion, the A-10 is one of the sexiest planes in the air. Having seen these in action, there is absolutely nothing more dangerous than being on the receiving end of this beast. I love your build, and I would love to fly one of these one day. I will continue honing my skills until I am ready for her. Good work!

I have swapped out the 20 amp esc for the 12 amp one.. and also changed the 7x4 down to a 6x4.. has a higher top rpm with a lower max amp draw. power is around 100watt which is just over 1:1 power which is great. still to maiden her yet though.. maybe if the weather here is good.

My Lancaster is practically complete, I just need to vac form the canopy and gun turrets, then spray paint it. I'm waiting for some 0.5mm PETG to arrive in the post, stuff seems to take ages to get over here in Spain . I also got distracted a little by starting a 1.0m wingspan Eurofighter, I think I like building more than flying
Anyway. back on topic, that was a good decision on swapping out the esc and using a smaller prop, and with the 1700kv BW the slight drop in thrust should be more than compensated with more speed from the 6x4.
Moving back home to Oz, I bet you're looking forward to getting some sunshine eh, how did you like Germany while you were there?

so the maiden was a total success! very happy with how this one flies. very smooth, plenty of power, lots of elevator control. the roll rate is not insane but still plenty of throw as you will see in the video. was a little nose heavy for the first flight so i removed 1 of the 10g lead weights from the nose and that fixed it up perfectly! i had originally covered the esc as max amps were are 10amps and being a 12amp esc i thought it would be ok.. turns out it was still getting a little hot so i removed the cover and with some air flow it was only slightly warm after a full power flight. it would seem as though this model has a rather large acceptable AOA envelope as sharp turns dont bring about any tip stall events as i would expect. or maybe it has something to do with the plane only weight 365g and that its too light to reach extreme angles of attack (AOA).
might consider throwing in some expo on the ailerons for smoother flying later on, how ever for the learning flights i will hold off. video should be uploaded in about another 30 mins so it will be next enjoy!
