Hacker B40 5L in a Smart?

My good buddie, Freq, is fixing up a Smart that I had gotten from another buddie of mine. He is modifying the tongue on the wing to go into a cavity in the fuse. I really never liked the way it was setup from factory. Besides that, there is not alot to get it ready to go. Of course I need another hotliner, dosn't everyone?

Since we can only swing a 13 in prop on this plane, I was thinking of using a B40 5L 4.4 on a 13/13 prop and 7 CP1700. I will be torture testing a CC 80 amp controller to ee if it will hold up to this abuse.

Has anyone used a 5L before, and if so, what application did they used.

Thanks
Mike

I have a 15x15 on my Smart also. The blades clear the wing by all of about 3/32", but it works just fine.

Hmm... I think I once flew a Smart with a Hacker B40-6L, 10 cells with a 15" prop. It was a while ago, so I can't remember very well. Didn't last long. Only one flight.

I am no Hacker expert, but I think that the 7 cell carbon is a 6L turn with the 4.4 gb. The 10 cell B40 is a 6XL with a 6.7 gb. The 5L that I am planning on using is a little hotter than the 7 cell carbon motor.

Since it appears that I could use a 15 in prop on the Smart, I might just have to move my 6L from my S9 over to the Smart and get a Pletty for the S9.
