Question
How to charge LiFe transmitter batteries?

I bought 3 of these LiFe 1500 transmitter batteries for my older HiTec (72mHZ) Transmitters because the voltage is nearer the voltage of NiCad's.

I Emailed Hobby King to get their recommendation for the right charger for those LiFe batteries. They recommended, and I bought this;

Like most HK products the charger has no instructions.
I cannot find a LiFe setting in the menu.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
T.B.

When you go to the setup menu with the type button, you can select the lithium battery voltage; as you do, it changes from LiPo to LiFe, and any other lithium type supported. Once the lithium voltage type is selected, that type is the only one chargeable when you use the type button to go to lithium charge. To return to LiPo, you have to go back to the setup menu, and change the voltage again.

There is nothing in my menu that says LiFe.
The only voltage choices are multiples of 3.7.
That's all I get.

That would be in the lithium battery charge menu. You have to use the setup menu to change the voltage option for lithium batteries. If it works like most, pressing the type button runs through a series of menus, including setup. You use the enter button to enter the setup function, and advance through the various options.

Yes, and the voltage choices are 3.6, 7.2, 10.8, 14.4, 18.0, 21.6. No option for 3.3, 6.6 and 9.9 for LiFe.

Grimbeaver,
OK that worked, thank you.
So, I got it on 9.9V at 1.5A and pressed enter. It was OK for a few seconds and then beeped and now it reads BATTERY VOL ERR CELL CONNECT
What's that?
Thanks,
T.B.

OK I may have answered my own question. I plugged in the balance connector, and it seems to be working.
Thanks all.

If you are in balance charge mode the balance connector must be connected. Really you should always connect it even if doing a normal charge because it monitors the cells to prevent over charging.

Absolutely. LiFe / A123 are same CV termination voltage.
