here we go again

This will be my first entry at RCGroups . . . .
I will be retiring soon & am building several aircraft which I'll be ready to fly soon . . . .
Have several old JR, Hitec & one Tracker III radios in my shop . . . .
Haven't flown since 2004 . . . .
Question ? Since I haven't used any of my RC equipment for the last 8 years, & since I haven't charged any of my internal radio nicads, or any flightpack nicads. should I try & charge them now? Throw them all out & buy new nicads, or simply start from scratch? I would like to continue to use my Tracker III radio system & continue to use my old Hitec Lazer 6 & JR 642 . . . .
Any suggestions . . . . Sure could use soon good advice right about now . . . .
Am practicing on my simulator & can't wait to get out to the field in the next few weeks . . . .

I would personnally throw all the power pack and buy new ones to avoid any problems, but I might be wrong...

It all depend how the storage of these battery pack was done...

please recycle

Toxic metals in batteries- radio shack and many town landfills accept batteries for recycling. To revive the batteries would require charging overnight with wall wart and running each transmitter until meter on tx was near empty zone, recording the time span and after three or four times if there is a pretty good amount of run time (say three hours for a 600-800mah battery pack) then the pack may be useable but you will have to charge at least some time right before you fly until you are sure the packs hold a charge for many weeks.

If they are easily changed out, I would replace them (take old ones to Best Buy recycle dropoff) with fresh to avoid possible problems. Amazon has some great deals on Tx and Rx packs so it's not as expensive as you might think. Just a suggestion
