I decided to improve the Spatz performance by changing the little 64mm 4300kv with the more powerful Mercury 3700kv alloy EDF.

I changed the 30A ESC for a 60A.

The battery used was a Nano 4s 2200 35c.

I had to make some room in the nacelle to accommodate the longer EDF but everything went fine.

Today was the maiden flight and I must say that this is a totally different plane.

Originally I needed to be very cautious on the turns because the plane tended to drop the wingtip, but with the higher velocity of the Mercury, now the turns are more sharp and controlled.

Cool. Mine came with two right wings. Made my own and it flew crooked and without rudder it was worthless. What wire did you use for the "making room" tool?

Sorry to hear that. Where did you buy it?

The wire is 2mm galvanized wire. Very ordinary and easy to find.

cool. Mine was a HK purchase. I could have contacted them for a replacement but I wanted the forward-swept wing... then when I made the wings they warped. I made a new set and it just flew wrong. I gave up.

Looks fantastic, Tartago! Sweet flyer. I take it you kept the nose gear servo. Would there be anything gained to keep the stock EDF, and upgrade to a stronger motor? Seems like 4s would be heavy. -------Metalguy

The stock EDF motor is puny. Maybe something better can be a good replacement.

The combination of heavier EDF+ESC+4s Batt is barely noticeable with the added power.

The plane flies excellent now.

Today another 2 sorties with a lot of power to do rolls, loops and fast fly by s.
