That is always a matter of opinion. People were flying full house gliders on 4 channel standard radios long before there were computer radios. Hopefully people will post what they are using, but right now I just wanted to see the brand of radios and the brand of RF. Any more than that would be far too big.

As for Hitec and sailplanes, the Hitec Eclipse 7 was a very popular sailplane radio and many entry level full house pilots were using the Optic 6. Hitec now has the Eclipse Pro which has sailplane mixing too.

There are a lot of Radian Pro pilots out there flying on DX6is and DX7s and doing quite well with them. You and I may not think of these as a sailplane radios but if he is flying sis Pro with a DX6i or DX7, then he clicks Spektrum/Spektrum on the survey.

After 83 responses we see about 75% of pilots are flying the same RF as their radio brand.

JR pilots are the most likely to be flying another RF brand, but we have to take into account that that other RF brand might be Spektrum. I would have made 3 JR choices if I had thought of it when I set up the poll.

Yes there is, it's what I do. MPX Royal Pro 7/MPX RF for F5B competition so far, but will probably get retired due to 2 problems leading to 2 airplane losses. MPX Cockpit MM and Pico with Assan RF for most of my fun gliders and F5D limited competition(never a problem) and MPX Royal EVO 9 with Frsky RF( DHT-U) for my F5J glider (never a problem). Probably will replace competition sets with Turnigy 9X with Open 9X software and Frsky RF
( DHT-U) soon...

The votes keep coming in. Right now JR and Futaba are each sitting at around 21% with Airtronics at 16% and Hitec around 17% That accounts for about 75% of all responses. If we add Spektrum with 9% than we see that 84% of the responses are concentrated in the 5 major brands. No real surprise.

What may be a surprise is that the Turnigy 9X/FlySky TH9X and its other labeled models accounted for around 5% or a bit more than half of Spektrum's representation. The survey does not say what people are flying so we don't know if these are high end users or not, but it is interesting to see the numbers adding up.

nothing...

OK , I see your point, I'll click MPX + Other RF. But I'll soon switch to THX-9+other RF(FrSky) , unless the FrSky 9 channel TX has the display on top, can use Open9X and comes out soon...

I'm guiding a couple of full-house sailplanes with a FlySky/Turnegy 9X running Open9X and mix of FlySky and Turnegy 6ch RX's:
  • TopSky 1.0 DLG (4ch flapperon)
  • Chandelle 2m slermal (4ch flapperon + v-tail)
  • Mamba Combat Wing (elevon)

On the bench are two more unfinished birds going on the same Tx/Rx:
  • SkyKing Shrike (pitcheron)
  • Blejzyk First+ (6ch - real full house)

I also have a Spektrum DX6i, used on all my helicopters, with one Spektrum 6100e Rx and five OrangeRX R610 Rx's (one spare):
  • Blade 400 FBL
  • HK450Pro TT
  • Exi 450 v2
  • HK250GT FBL
  • HK250GT non-flybarless
  • Blade mCPX

I wish the survey would list which Other RF were used. I am not familiar with all the possible Other RF is generally available but XPS has to be available for the most radios and the easiest to install. Installation of XPS RF module in my Evo took five minutes after spending 15 minuted digesting the instruction.

If I listed every radio and every possible combination for that radio there would be 100 click boxes and I was not about to take that on. However here are some of the options:

Plug in Modules (the ones I know)
In most cases Futaba modules also fit many Hitec module based radios

Spektrum is available for JR and Futaba
Hitec has modules for JR and Futaba
FrSky has modules for JR and Futaba
Corona has modules for JR and Futaba
Assan X8 has modules for JR and Futaba
FlySky has modules that will fit JR, not sure about Futaba
XPS has modules for JR, Hitec and Futaba and others
SuperMicro Systems has a module for Futaba

Tactic Anylink and XPS have external modules that attach through the trainer port on most radios.

FrSky has an option that you can solder inside the radio that will work on most radios that are not module based..

There are probably other options from other makers but these are the ones I know.

So, if I did what you asked then just for Futaba I would need:

Futaba/Futaba ( 72 MHz, 50 MHz, 35 MHZ, )
Futaba/Futaba (FASST 2.4, FHSS 2.4)
Futaba/Spektrum DSM2
Futaba/Frsky (module or internal)
Futaba/Hitec
Futaba/Corona
Futaba/XPS (module or external)
Futaba/Tactic Anylink
Futaba/Assan
Futaba/Supermicro
Futaba/Other ( who knows)

That was more than I wanted to do at this point. I might do separate surveys later, or someone else can set one up.

Maybe I'm old school. I have an old ACE Micropro 8000 that I have been using for years. It is on 6 meters. I use it in all of my ships. As for RXs, I have 2 Ace and 2 FMAs. Maybe some day I'll move to something new but as long as it continues to service me well I see no reason to switch. I may consider something lower end on 2.4 ghz for my RES and electric ships. Not in any rush however.
