Question
Mini FuntanaX Motor question.

Hi,

I have the 920Kv Eflite Park480 in the nose if a Mini FuntanaX, and it will not hover.

Ive been told that an AXI 2808/24 could be a nice motor to put on the nose of the Mini FuntanaX , but i wonder if it will hover and 3D with a wooden 10x7 prop? Cause, i know that Eflite Park480 1020kv motor is good for 3D and all... but i have questions about the AXI....

Enough power to hover with the 10x7 prop?
Im running with 3s 2200 mah batts... or 1 1800 3s...
Does the prop that i ordered from hobbyking will be good for the FuntanaX?

Thanks for all the answers!!

Max

Try using a larger diameter/lower pitch, like a 12X5 or 11X6. Use a watt meter to verify amps and if at upper limit, use throttle management. I would try this before shelling out the money on another motor.

Hi sir,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I currently have a 12x6 prop on the MFX. but a friend of mine told me that for 3D, i should get a 10x7, i wont get that much speed, but more torque... if i understand correctly...

I read in a thread that an Eflite park480 1020kv is pretty much the same as a AXI 2808/24, but im sooo not good with that...

I know the 1020kv, go for 275w of power, but cant find the AXI 2808/24, how much he goes in power...

Thanks again,

Max

For 3D, you need more thrust and that is what a larger diameter prop will give. Try P-Calc and input your motor along with different prop sizes.

Here it is.

If you are not getting the thrust you need, then you can try a different motor.

The DriveCalc computation is compromised by limited test data... but it suggests that a 13x4 will not exceed the amp limit, and it should get you more thrust than a 12x6.

understood. Thanks a lot for the informations.

with the link Challenger 413 gave me, the Prop Static Thrust oz: number should be ? high for 3D?

Setup in the MFX (whats in the plane right now...)
park400 910kv (in the motor selection, i believe its the one i got in the nose of the MFX right now...) 12x6 prop and CC 35Amp ESC : Thrust = 55.4

I played with the calculator... APC is the prop selection ive made.
park400 910kv, 13x4 prop, CC 35amp ESC = Thrust = 48.6 .....
park400 910kv, 12x7 prop, CC 35amp ESC = Thrust = 60.5 (motor amp : 30.949)
park400 910kv, 12x8 prop, CC 35amp ESC = Thrust = 65 (motor amp : 33.2)

park400 910kv, 11x8 prop, CC 35amp ESC = Thrust = 58.3 (motor amp : 27.456)
park400 910kv, 11x9 prop, CC 35amp ESC = Thrust = 62.5 (motor amp : 29.352)
park400 910kv, 11x10 prop, CC 35amp ESC = Thrust = 66.3 (motor amp : 31.093)

I think, (not good at all here..) if i change the prop to 12x8, i should be able to hover with the same motor in my MFX?
Same motor, or prop 11x10 ? hover capable??

Eflite park400 1020kv, 12x6prop and CC 35amp, Thrust = 65.8, is that better?? (but draw motor amp : 37.788).... so will need to put another ESC in, a 40 amp i guess...

or,

I came accross this : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...r_1020kv_.html
Is it the same power than the eflite Park480 1020kv??? looks the same to me???
That motor is an upgrade (more power) from the Eflite Park480 910kv motor???
with this motor, + a bigger prop like Dr Kiwi mentioned (13x4 ), hover and 3D??

or,

http://www.raidentech.com/al4801oubrmo.html
Is this motor equivalent?
That motor is an upgrade (more power) from the Eflite Park480 910kv motor???
with this motor, + a bigger prop like Dr Kiwi mentioned (13x4 ), hover and 3D??

Yes, the higher the better if all you want is,,,,to hover.

I wouldn't go below 5 on the pitch because you won't have enough speed for other maneuvers unless you want to push full throttle to do simple loops.

You should pick a prop that allows you to hover between 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, then if you are in trouble in a hover, you can pull out with full throttle...

I think the E flite 480-920, 12x6 APC can handle and around 23A.
This will be enough for 3D maneuvers.
Some report using the 1020 kv and this prop without problems.
For 920Kv model should be very safe to use this prop.
Especially if batteries are used only 20-25c and performing maneuvers with the throttle about half.

Maybe try a newer 3S1P 1500 pack. I am not sure if this is the problem, but some of the older 3S1P 2100 packs were a bit weak?
